What games do you play? Knowing that would really help.

Should be fine, It works well and I'm limited by DDR2.

Heavy CPU games may be the only issue.

BC2 won't bottleneck too much.

GTA IV will have a pretty large bottleneck.

Crysis will have a pretty large bottleneck.

Black OPs will have a pretty large bottleneck.

Team Fortress 2 will have a pretty large bottleneck.

Hmmm. Why will I see much difference in Team Fortress 2? I thought that game was low spec? How "bad" will the bottlenecks be? If it is only a couple of FPS then I think I can sacrifice this

You probably aren't below 60 fps now, why do you need CF?

That is to say, the bottleneck will probably present itself above 60 fps anyways, but if you're bottlenecked now where the gpu usage drops and you're getting low fps at the same time CF won't help. At least for that game.

Games like Crysis require more power to push 60+ fps at very high settings than a Phenom II can provide.

He's not bottlenecked now dude, he's gpu limited if anything. Now if he adds a second card, he will bottleneck since he's raised his gpu threshold.

Well Im at the moment running 2x HD4870x2 in Crossfire X with a Phenom 965be OC'd to 4ghz and touchwood everything is going smoothly. The games i play are mostly FPS ie Dead Space 2 (55-60fps), Test Drive Unlimited 2 (48-55fps), Black Ops (50-60fps) etc all at the highest settings and have videos to show the FPS using Fraps (record them on my iphone to show my cousin brother who's also a gamer and we check each other FPS out as a laugh SAD OR WHAT lol).

I just think the word 'bottlenecking' is just overrated and loosely used. Think of it like this, if you didnt know about the word 'bottleneck' and just played a game which ran smoothly, would you really notice a difference?
