A few questions

Thread Starter
Okay gents, I have a few questions before I start getting into water..

1. Can an H50 pump, work with a 240 rad and an xpsc dual res... The stock 120 will not be used.

2. What is the best pump for the buck right now... I am only going to do a cpu loop... my gpu stay under 50c right now under full load.

Thanks guys.

I wouldn't use an H50 pump for that setup, though some have before. It's just a very slow weak pump not suited to running a full size loop.

You can buy the XSPC reservoir with pump for around $50 I believe, and whatever you end up getting, it'll likely be better for a loop than the H50's pump because anything will be designed for more flow than that pump.

Swiftech MCP355 or MCP35x for a 240 rad is IMO the best for the money

The swiftech pumps mentioned are excellent, especially if you combine them with a reservoir top, so that you get great flow plus a reservoir in the same package.

Also, what items are you going to have in your watercooling loop? That makes a big difference too, like 1 CPU block (or 2 sometimes), plus GPU, radiators, etc?

Best bang for buck for a CPU only loop would probably be the XSPC X20 750 pump res combo, $50 and will work fine for a CPU loop.

If you want something a bit smaller, look at the Jingway 1200 rebrands, like the EK DCP 4.0 or the DD CPX-Pro, $60 for a silent and reasonably powerful pump.

Then you get into MCP655 and 355 territory, but be aware that to use barbs with them you will need to purchase a separate top, otherwise you are stuck with the built in 1/2" (655) or 3/8" (355) barbs.

I just picked up some 3/8 tubing and xpsc dual res (w/o pump)... I think I may nab a 355 then.

Yeah, I thought that might happen. I started off with CPU only, lasted about 2 weeks before the GPU found it's way in there too.

In that case scratch the XSPC X2O, it will work for a SLI rig but not too well. The Jingway 1200s will still be fine, as will the Swiftech pumps.

If you are dropping two GPUs into the loop you will have to add more rad than a 240. Conventional wisdom is 1.5 * 120mm rad per GPU, but it depends on what rads and fans you plan to use and, of course, the GPUs. You can always add these later though.

Thinking a 240 rad may not be enough to chill out the cpu and 2x gpu's, really consider a 360 otherwise you will have to push serious air into the 240 to get any decent performance. more air=more noise

added: looks like your phantom will not easily adapt to more than the 240 rad. consider a dual radiator or even dual loop setup perhaps? Else, very high performance fans push/pull with shrouds.

FrozenCPU has good selection,,,, EK-CoolStream RAD XT (240) best bang for the buck and they deliver real fast.
