I'd rather save and buy something better. That computer is terrible.

it's just pointless to purchase consumer electronics at the lowest level of budget in my opinion. if you can't save up to make a buy at a sweet spot as far as price ranges go, then you will simply be a sad consuming panda.
He can get enough money for a decent system, he just wants to start with something small and upgrade to better stuff later.. or some crap like that. If he wants to buy a piece of poop and upgrade later, its his choice. He doesn't want to build his own, which ive told him to do countless times.

I'd just say build him a cheap system.
With this setup, he'll probably dislike you for not stopping him...

you should tell your friend he's making a poor financial investment with this ancient technology he will have no path for upgrading and if he wants to "upgrade" he will be in essence purchasing an entirely new system anyway.

IMHO the computer is a piece of trash, but he seems persisted to get it. He also says that if he doesnt like the performance, he can just upgrade. Anyway here are the specs:

AMD 64 3000 Single Core Processor 1.8Ghz
ASUS motherboard Socket 939
ATI X800 Pro Video Card
19" Samsung Monitor
2 GB ddr2 ram
Custom Case with window panel

I dont know any of the other specs. But would it be cheaper to buy this piece of garbage and upgrade, or just build his own system?

Thanks.
Buy the case and the monitor, and then buy the other parts yourself.

If he doubles his budget, double and a half, he can walk in at an entry machine with upgrade possibilities.
