Odd temperature readings

Thread Starter
I got a MSI X58 Pro-E and Intel Core i7 920 (stock fan and for the moment no overclock)

I'm getting some odd temperature readings on my cpu...Speccy and Real Temp shows the cores idling at around 44-48C, Speed Fan shows CPU at 37-38 and Hmonitor shows CPU1 at 77-78, CPU2 at 41 and CPU0 Core seems to follow same temps as Speccy and Real Temp.

When I use Prime95 and put some load on the system Speccy, Real Temp and Hmonitor's CPU0 Core temps jump up to a little over 80C but all other temps remain the same, Speed Fan still thinks my cpu is at 38C.

So I'm wondering what the different programs are actually monitoring?

Another little oddity is Speed Fan showing "Local Temp" at -56C and "Temp1" bounced from about 27 on idle to 56 on load.

Also I got the cpu smart fan target thingy set to try to maintain 50C and 50% min fan speed. Problem is when I put the system under load and cpu core temps go to over 80 the cpu fan still just runs at 50% (1100 ish rpm). Anyone know why?

And lastly I'm kinda new to this so please be gentle and thanks in advance for any help!

im going out on a guess but might be a bug int hte program dont use it so dont knwo what hardware it supports.the best way to get you temps are to use the bios temps.
like i said this is just a guess so dont use my answer its just an opinion of thought

Makes sense for Speed Fan and Hmonitor that they may not be able to read the sensors correct but the smart fan target should still be able to, I want to do a smaller overclock but wont until I know my cpu fan will actually try to keep the system cool, atm it's like it is locked at 50%. If I disable the smart fan target then it runs at 100% all the time as I've understood it's supposed to so I dont think there's any program in windows overriding the fan speeds.
