[CVG]DICE prepped for Xbox 720, PS4 arrival, Battlefield 3 pushing current consoles.. - Page 2

Meh there will always be a compromise. PC like visuals and small maps or big maps and crappy visuals or a mix of the two. Since DICE stated they aren't making two different games this has got me worried because there is no way they could make a game that looks as good as it does in the trailer and have BF2 sized maps with 64 players.

Since consoles are the larger market and they aren't making "two" games then we might suffer.

You DO realize that consoles, in particular the PS3 had a lot of horsepower that hadn't been tapped into, right? Why do you think games on consoles advance from the first year the console is out to the last? Because Devs finally get familiar with all of the developer tools and find new ways of making things work. So, get off your high-horse.

Uh, what? Dice has repeatedly stated that the main development platform is PC. End of worries right there. Secondly, they've also said they've had to scale back the game, not just graphically but play-wise for the consoles.

IIRC they said they would have scaled down maps for consoles.

It doesn't change the fact that the GPU power of the PS3 and 360 is laughable compared to a modern mid range GPU for a PC. If somebody claimed a PC game can push a Nvidia 9800 GTX to its limits would anybody care?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on consoles. I recently bought a PS3. But half of the reason was because it also does Blu-Ray and 7.1 audio. I figured I might as well get a PS3 instead of only a blu-ray player. The release of GT5 was also a big factor.

I think you guys missed this article...

'It's funny,' says AMD's worldwide developer relations manager of its GPU division, Richard Huddy. 'We often have at least ten times as much horsepower as an Xbox 360 or a PS3 in a high-end graphics card, yet it's very clear that the games don't look ten times as good.
...
On consoles, you can draw maybe 10,000 or 20,000 chunks of geometry in a frame, and you can do that at 30-60fps. On a PC, you can't typically draw more than 2-3,000 without getting into trouble with performance, and that's quite surprising - the PC can actually show you only a tenth of the performance if you need a separate batch for each draw call.

That's why PC games look worse than console games... Wait a second...

Yes consoles have an advantage because they are purpose built machines tuned to run games, but the raw power of a PC still beat them out in performance even if it isn't as efficient.

PC will always be superior because it constantly adapts to new technology. Consoles have to choose a technology and stick with it for the next several years.

Yes PC has the power. But, do we see the full potential of PC? In reality, that's never the case. PCs maybe 10 or 20 times more powerful then the console. You can have a hardware with all the power in the world. But,if it doesn't get tapped into,it's pointless then. Most PC games in the modern age are mostly ports,or are built similarly across all platforms.
