Microsoft will start releasing the next version of Windows Phone by the end of this year, the company said today.
Windows Phone 8, or whatever Microsoft ends up calling it, will include support for Kinect-like motion sensing through a phone’s camera, Microsoft said today at its MIX11 conference in Las Vegas. Such functionality will be accessible by Windows Phone apps and games.

Interesting considering i didn't think that Windows Phone 7 was doing all that well...

Lol pulling an Apple and releasing new phone revision every year, so bad MS... seriously. The WP7 weren't even that great anyways, not too many functions nor was there a basic front facing camera for chats. Also, I think MS lost it in the phone business, WinMo was a good start, coulda been a Android OS.

Must be your Focus because my HTC HD7 feels faster then my Galaxy S Captivate and my older iPhone 3GS.

It's not that, it's that they are releasing a new first WP8 basic model phone then releasing it to their AIB partners like HTC, Samsung, Nokia, and Motorola with a slightly updated phone OS so they can create their own phones. Sounds a lot like Apple, BUT Apple doesn't revamp their whole OS (I'm assuming MS will be making a slightly different style OS for their phones) but add fuctions to it(which of course could've been with it to begin with before the crazy amounts of iOS updates). It's like they are trying the Apple way, when the Google way makes more sense for what Microsoft is known for to many people.

Heck, I remember when HTC was a small name in the WinMo, but when the Android OS came along, I bet HTC was jumping for joy because now their products are all over the place.

Because "next Windows Phone" sounds a lot like new iPhone 7, when the iPhone 6 is out, annually new phone - hardware (possibly) - revision, and that kinda bothers me because like, I can't really explain it... but I guess my view on MS capping down on their OS and hardware does bother me keeping other manufacturers from doing their thing.

Well i like the idea of Apple with a new OS with new Phone each year. Andoid Phone in the other had move from 2.1 to 2.2-2.3 in one year time frame or even less which is not a big jump and thats all the updates most of them get. I dont see why current WP7 phones cant run WP8. Last i checked WP8 was due 2012 and this was just a big update for WP7 more like 7.5.

When they say WP7, do they refer to it as the generation of phones, or the OS name??? That gets me confused.

Ok I want the HD7S, but if that means MS is going to create a new hardware generation with new OS, then I'm better off waiting.
