Patch Panel/Switch/Networking Checklist

Here are the last two items that I've come down to on my home networking 'kit'. Let me know if these will work well. Keep in mind I'm running Cat5e, I only need 15 ports max (including router), and gigabit is not a need at this point. Let me know if these are good items to buy. Also let me know if my plan below works:

Items for Purchase (please give me the okay):

Punch Panel

TrendNET Network switch

Networking Plan (brief diagram):

1) Run cables from central location (wire closet) to rooms.

2) Set ethernet faceplates in rooms.

3) Connect central wires to Punch Panel.

4) Connect Cat5 (short) cables from PP to Switch.

5) Connect Cable modem to wireless N Router.

6) Connect wireless N Router to switch to complete the network.

That will work just fine. But I would consider getting a switch that supports at least on gigabit (trunk) uplink between your switch and wireless router..

If you don't mind going used, I'd highly recommend the 2950T (2 x 1000mb/sec uplink ports) access layer switch over a some cheap over the counter user grade switch like that.. $50-$100 on ebay

The benefits would be astronomical in the configuration department..
