Rampage III Formula Ram Question.

My RAM heatsinks are too big for my Noctua D14.

I have my ram in (going left to right) in slots 2,4,6.
Is it bad if I take it triple channel mode to double channel mode using slots 4,6 till I buy some ram with smaller heatsinks?

Will I come into any issues?

Thank you.

You should be fine, shouldn't be much of a performance loss (won't be noticeable in games, just synthetics)

I recently had a stick of my triple channel Mushkin ram die and didn't notice any performance decrease. I'm not even sure when the stick died. I just noticed one day that it only said 4Gb instead of 6. I did some investigating and narrowed it down to one card being dead. I honestly saw no decrease in performance dropping to 2 channels. I'm still waiting to RMA it because I don't want to go without a computer while my RAM is being replaced.

Although I do recommend the mushkin ram as far as size. They are very short if you get the frostbyte heatsinks. The odd thing with mushkin is that they offer the same ram with several heatsink choices but market them as different models. The frostbyte heatsink is nice and short. Lifetime warranty is nice too.

Thanks for the quick responses!!! I'm going to just go down to 4gb for now.

I'll pick another triple channel set when I find some good stuff on sale.
