2600k OC Question

Thread Starter
So I have my i7 OCed to 4.6ghz. In CPUID it tells me im only at 1.6ghz until i use intelburntest then it hops to 4.6. Is this normal? Do I have to validate my OC while its under load to get it to post my 4.6 or is there something im doing wrong? Might be trivial, but as they say the stupidest question is the one never asked

Thanks

That's SpeedStep downclocking your CPU when it's not being used to conserve electricity. Validate it under load if you want the CPU-Z validation (which is near-worthless anyway).

Ok, i figured it was something like that but I wanted to make sure. As far as the validation is concerned I just wanted it for joining one of the many clubs on the forums here. I dont have ANY friends that are into computers as a hobby so I want to get into the forums a bit deeper to feed that portion of my interest. That and you all have been super helpful to me while trying to get up to speed in the enthusiast world So hey thanks
