Need help overclocking my AMD 965 BE! C3!

Thread Starter
Hi guys, I need some help overclocking my AMD 965 BE C3 (as the title says wink.gif). I currently have it all on stock, I just got the CPU. I have air cooling, Coolermaster hyper 212 plus. I've overclocked before, not this CPU, but I've never reached 4ghz, and I really want to now. I just want to know how can I get to 4ghz, what volts, what to do with cpu-nb, etc.

system specs:
Motherboard: MSI 790GX-G65
RAM: Gskill Ripjaw 12800 CL9 @1600, 9-9-9-24 @ 1.65V
CPU: AMD 965 BE @3.4, V= Stock (1.43, it's on auto) same with cpunb and HT
Video card: Gigabyte 460 gtx 1gb
Power supply: Powercolor 750W

Any help would be greatly appreciated. frown.gif

Hi, ive got a similar spec to yours and my voltages are:
Cpu - 1.409V running at 4.01ghz (Multiplier x20, Bus Speed 200) (can increase upto 1.55V but the lower the better - less heat),
Cpu/NB Frequency - 1.18V (up to 1.35 -1.4V but the lower the better) @ 2600mhz.
Keep your HT Link at 2000mhz and up yr cpu/nb to 2600mhz.

Always try with lower voltages 1st (try mine which are LOW) and if it fails to boot add in small amounts of voltages to the cpu. Once into windows run Prime95 Blend test and also run AOD Stress test.

Those are some crazy voltages... very low.. How stable are you? How long do you run prime95?

Hi fabiotonic, I run AOD Stress Test for 1 hour before running Prime to indicate any early errors as it picks them up real quick. Prime95 Blend (dont really perfer to) over night and MemTest86+ for 7 passes as thats good enough for me lol and ontop of all that hammer some GAMES lol

Ok. Well I'm trying right now just by upping the Multiplier.. and the voltage a tiny bit from stock voltage, so CPU volts are now at 1.43. I haven't messed with the CPU NB yet nor the ram. Ram's at 9-9-9-24 @ 1.65v.

So far I'm at 3.7ghz at 1.43 (only 20 min run on Prime95).. I'm doing a small ffts test since it's more towards CPU than anything. I ran a blend test earlier(more towards RAM) and it ran fine for an hour, no errors. Gonna leave my CPU voltage at 1.43 and keep adding on the Multiplier and run prime95 tests for about an hour each time I UP the Multiplier (@18.5 atm).

Do you suggest messing with the CPU-NB now or just figure how to get to 4ghz first then messing around with it?

Im Just gonna throw this out here, AMD Overdrive, some people don't like this, but it does have its uses. Theres a auto clock feature on it , Will give you a idea what your system can do then you can fine tune it from there , try and find a tutorial for it shouldnt be too hard, just an idea, Have fun thats the whole idea !

Hi, I wouldnt use the autoclock feature as that adjusts the voltages of the cpu, ram, cpu/nb etc (been also advised on many other forums).
Regarding the ops question, only do 1 thing at a time to max each components limit. At the moment your increasing your multiplier, once youve found your highest limit and start blue screening/freezing etc increase the cpu/nb and continue but keeping an eye on your temps and the voltages ive given above. Once youve reached the maximum drop the multiplier back down to stock and start upping your FSB etc. Once you have found your stable clock you then can start messing with your memory timings which il help.

begging for rep is not allowed here..

OP: since it's a BE chip you can simply crank the multiplier up to what you desire..with a good cooler you can easily do 4ghz on that chip with 1.45v to 1.5v on vcore..you can either crank the NB up too if you like a boost on performance, given you supply it with adequate voltage..set your memory settings to the specs indicated/rated for it..then do some stressing to see if its fine/stable..watch out for your temps too..
