Yeah thermaltake isnt known to have good wc kits.

At best, id use it to cool my chipset or something miscellaneous

What was the BSOD?

BSODs can really help tune an overclock...

That's not entirely true. I ran my i7 920 OC'd to 4.2ghz (check my sig rig) on a Corsair H50 which uses a single, scrawny 120mm rad

My temps were in the mid 30's (c) at idle and the high 60's (c) on a Prime load. My ambient temp was on the cooler side, 17-19c, in my basement though but it still shows that the H50 is a well-designed cooler for an intro water-cooling system.

I still use a modded H50 on my alternate gaming rig which has an OC'd i7 920 (C0) processor and it's temps are 29-30c at idle.

What ambient temp are you running your 950? Ambient temps are a big factor in comparing cooling solutions.

Your BIOS should have a setting that prevents the BSOD screen from disappearing. I don't know exactly where it is at in your BIOS but check it out. I can help you search if necessary.

edit:
Check page 3-40 of your owner manual. It should tell you the setting "Wait for F1 if error" when that is enabled, the screen will stay up till you hit F1 or reset.

OK cool, The corsair H series sound like a good single rad, & dont they have really skinny Tubing, ? it must be just the thermaltake rad i'm using as i get those temp at stock speed 3.07GHz or my rad is made of alloy or the i7 950 just runs hotter.

Yeah, I'm sure it'll run hotter than my 920. I think you're 3.06ghz at stock clock speed, right? and I'm "only" 2.66ghz

Regardless, the temps don't sound too bad and once you get past that BSOD, I think you'll be real happy with your OC.

You mentioned that you had push/pull fans on the rad? That's real important to get the H50 to perform well. Mine was modded also with a res, using the swiftech MicroRes. It doesn't really help it perform better but it looks TONS cooler! You have to have room in the case for the res though. I used 1/4" tubing. Is that what the BigWater kit uses?
