SLI AA Benchmarks? - Page 3

My understanding of ''SLI AA'' is that the 2 cards are still in 'True SLI' in the sense that both cards still spilt up the workload equally. In other words, it does not seem like 1st card does everything except AA while the 2nd card does AA only.

For this particular SLI rendering mode, the AA workload is spilt up between the 2 GPUs. So, instead of, say, the full 8xAA workload being done by 1st card and then the 8xAA being done by the 2nd card (similar to Alternate Frame), 1st card now handles its own 4xAA and 2nd card handles also its own 4xAA. The result of this spilt up AA workload is 'blended' to form an 8xAA image for output.

As such, it explains why brettjv got equal GPU usage on both cards when this mode is enabled.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Yup Windfire, your interpretation of what that article explains seems accurate, and that explanation does seem to jibe with the equal use on both cards. So, it's not 'one card does AA and the other does 'rendering' (wonder where I came up with that notion ) ... however, something has to have changed, otherwise it wouldn't be designated as SLI AA.

And I think the part that they're leaving out of that explanation ... is that when you use this mode, you're not in SLI Performance Mode anymore, i.e. you're no longer doing alternate frame rendering.

I'd guess that you can expect performance similar to what you'd get on a single card running the same game without any AA (and maybe even less perf, esp. if you crank up the SLI AA level really high).
