Overclocking gtx 460, help needed

Thread Starter
Hi,

A week ago I bought a gtx 460 se.
Now I tried to oc it with MSI afterburner, worked all great, see sig clocks.

Then I started playing bf:bc 2, I crash, so I downclocked a little bit, still crashing, downclocked, crashing, downclocked, etc.

So basically now I'm back at stock.

I upped the mhz by 25 everytime, checking how it went in cod, went smooth.
So I upped more and more. Now I have to down it for bf bc 2 frown.gif.

edit: the "crashes" are basically, game shutting down and i'm not able to execute any program, it'll pop up as not responding.

Regards

Preben

crashed again at stock settings lol.

I had skype, 2x wows running ingame, bf bc 2.

Can it be that my cpu voltage is to low?

I recently upped it to 3,8 w/o upping voltage.

Actually, download and run Furmark at your settings and see if it is still crashing. That should be able to isolate the problem.

Yes, I think it's because your CPU OC is not stable.

Run furmark/kombustor with stock settings of your GPU and you should be able to find out.

Try running these tests with a milder CPU overclock (or at stock settings). Also, if you intend to overclock the graphics card heavily, you'll want to unlock voltage control within MSI Afterburner. There are two check boxes to tick in the settings menu.

Pull back the CPU OC and see how Furmark and/or BF:BC2 perform.

I have 2 se's and I run the hell out of them.
see sig rig for oc on those.
Might need to do some voltage tweaking, I know I had to edit my bios to get the voltage up to where it was stable

You have to stress test when you overclock any component. Also, never overclock more than one component at a time, otherwise the extra variables make it difficult to pinpoint the weakness (such as the case is now). Decide which component (CPU or GPU) you want to overclock first and keep the other at stock. Then, increase speeds gradually as you did, apply voltage as appropriate, and stability test with the respected program (OCCT or Furmark). Good luck! cheers.gif
