New build HDD ideas

Thread Starter
Hey everyone,

I am currently working on my new build and a have gotten stuck on what I am going to do about my storage. I decided on going SSD for OS (Win 7 x64 Ult.), 1 TB RAID 0 for gaming, and a 1 TB for storage e.g. media and documents. I wanted to have the separate drive for media storage so I can easily move that drive to another PC if necessary. Is this an overall good setup? How big of an SSD will I need to get this working properly? Also, I was thinking about using Samsung F3's for the HDD's, are they worth it?

Thanks in advance.

Use Hitachi Deskstars. They have more platters than most HDD's and are reasonably cheap.

F3's are fine, pretty much best for 1tb drives at the price

U can also do this

http://www.overclock.net/ssd/664738-...secondary.html

Grab a 60-100 gb drive. Put os and a few of the most used games u have in it, if u run out of space, put the other games into the other drives that are in Raid 0.

Pretty much my exact setup - I have an SSD (64GB AData S599, highly recommended 280 reads, 270 writes) for my OS and basic programs (Internet browser, office, itunes, ect.) and my main programs stored on Raid-0 1TB WD Caviar Black drives with a 1TB backup drive that is in a hot swap bay. I still have ~ 30GB left over on the SSD, although I am in the process of switching to Raid-0 SSD for boot drive just for kicks (and because I have 2 spare laying around lol)

F3's are definitely worth it, if I had something other than my WD's I would consider switching to them as they are basically the same speed for cheaper. Great setup, would highly recommend it!

and to the above poster, LESS platters is better, read any review out there, they will all tell you that and I personally try to stay away from Hitatchi and Seagate, they are fairly prone to failure, and usually aren't as fast.

So I ended going with the Mushkin Callisto 40gb drive. I got a newegg coupon today that took 10% off and couldn't say no. I went with the mushkin inserted of an ocz because of the name. Mushkin comes highly recommended so I figured it would be a good buy. Now into my hdd's.
