help in buliding my first pc - Page 4

Thread Starter
It's at stock 550MHz core and 700MHz memory, with the case of my pc being almost completely stripped off and it standing under an open window. But maybe the case fans would help lots...

Your PSU may be fine-we don't know the quality of components inside. You only need a 400w PSU to run that system. The Antec VP450 will do.GSkill makes great RAM and usually cheaper than Corsair, don't let the fan boys fool you.

Take a look at the benchmarks with the GTX 460 1GB and the GTX 460 764mb (thank you for the correction, Aniket). Not much difference, even at higher resolutions.

Bear in mind he may potentially want to OC the CPU. Hence the bigger PSU.

Also, the Ripjaws compared to the Vengeance, I consider the Vengeance best.

I would honestly just wait another month to pick up a stronger PSU just because of the fact that with a low-quality one, you can burn out your components. I have seen it before. Actually melted some of the bus traces on a motherboard.

Moreover, you can keep that GT240 for the time being. It will still be a very usable machine. And up the card to your 460 choice when you have a few extra dollars.

Moreover, G.skill is a very reputable brand, been using my memory for 2 years now and not one hiccup. Don't get me wrong, so is Corsair, but if money doesn't allow it, G.skill is still a damn good choice.

ya,I agree with u,there's very little difference between 1gb & 768mb version, which is why I'm getting the 768mb for my rig

If you really wanted to save a few bucks down the line (where talking like 5) then get an Antec High current gamer 620 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/246651, as far as ram goes and since your planing on overclocking it timings dont really matter since intel likes fast ram so the any of the options put up would work great.

Now on to the gpu your current one should do for now, still suggest more airflow for your case. As far as the gtx 460's go I would spend the 15 difference for the 1Gb because you never know when you might get a 28" monitor.

its not the size, its the res. could have a 90" tv, but if its 640*480 then you could run that with integrated graphics

Indeed, I will want to OC the CPU when I get a proper PSU. I know some people, though, who run GTX 460's and i3's and i5's and they don't get any problems with the same PSU that I have, but I will have to make my own decision whether I want to risk it or just buy a proper brand one.

As for RAM I have already decided that I'll get G-Skill.

In case of the gpu I wanna get some more opinions to help me decide. The main thing is that I want this setup to last for a while and still being able to play games on good detail.
