[TNW] Virgin Oceanic Sub Will 'Fly' to Ocean Depths - Page 3

I used to think that Richard Branson was just a bit of annoying attention grabber, but now I realise, I'm just jealous

You need to realize the ocean is so huge we haven't discovered everything everywhere. Cuz millions of years ago it used to be land also. So anything is possible and anything can be found down there as a undiscovered species or lost temple like Atlantis for example and more.

I believe we are stepping into a new frontier.. besides space that is. I hope we can reach more but we can learn the same way by discovering the ocean first then go farther in space but we'll need better technology to reach beyond mars!

I'm no sub expert but I really don't see them dealing with the pressure changes and navigation of an unexplored area in that short of an amount of time. Then again they describe this as "flying underwater" when if you go further from sea level in a plain the atmosphere gets thinner while underwater you get the opposite.
It would be pretty hard to draw conclusions from a conceptual animation with no expertise in subs. And the same fluid dynamics would still apply even at greater pressures. It's harder to fly in a thinner atmosphere as there is less fluid keeping you afloat so you would need a greater wing to weight ratio.

They put a lot of resources and engineering to make this happen. I'm sure they won't put all that along with a human life into jeopardy if they weren't confident in this sub's abilities. A lot things are on the line and a failure would be catastrophic for this company. I'm not saying nothing will go wrong, there's always that possibility, but I doubt they would let poor design and planning be the source of the problem.

The limitations for space exploration are the expense of getting resources into space and the distances involved. Our only real enemy is gravity. For underwater exploration, the pressures involved is our enemy. Remember a space craft is designed to withstand about 1 atmosphere over equilibrium. A submarine will have to withstand several atmospheres of pressure.

With 8,000 lbs of Carbon Fiber and Titanium, I doubt resistance is futile.
