Building a new rig

Thread Starter
Hi, i need abit of help deciding which of these rigs to get on a budget, i hope there are a few Danes here to help me doesn't need to be Danes thats just the easiest way of getting price.

Now i know this is the Intel part of the forums but i have 2 builds, one AMD and one Intel, and it all pretty much comes down to how cheaply i can find a 21.5 monitor thats worth anything to game on.

ATM the only difference other than Mobo and CPU is that i wont get the H50 cooler with the Intel rig.

anyway, here goes.

Intel or AMD

I know this of course alot of times also comes down to Brand loyalty but i hope to not start a flame war or something

I have of course looked at benchmarks for both and the Intel Sandybridge i5 outperforms the Phenom , it's just.. I need this for Gaming and a tiny bit of work in Game engines so im wondering if it's worth the price uppage for what im going for - i will probably end up OC'ing at some point cause this PC needs to last me a while, but its not like i will need to extreme OC it or anything like that.(sort of a price vs performance and need)

The budget which I will need to include the Monitor in is around 1500-1650 Dollars and 8000-8500 DKR (I will add Dollar pricetags from a calculation here Danish pricetags in links below)

Motherboard : (don't know much about Intel Chipsets Btw.)
ASUS P8P67-M PRO B3 - Intel = 189 Dollars.
ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 - AMD = 189 Dollars.

CPU :
Core™ i5 Quad Processor i5-2500K - Intel = 275 Dollars.
Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Quad Core - AMD = 188 Dollars.

GPU :
HIS Radeon HD 6950 2GB GDDR5 "TURBO" = 365 Dollars.

PSU :
Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 700W PSU = 128 Dollars.

RAM :
Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1333MHz 8GB CL9(2x4GB) = 134 Dollars.

HDD :
Western Digital AV-GP 1.5TB(there's not alot of in-depth stats on this for some reason) = 114 Dollars.

Case :
Cooler Master HAF 932 Big Tower. = 163 Dollars.

Now depending on wether or not i can find a Cheap monitor 21.5 inch or at that point to game on the CPU cooler H50 will only be on AMD rig.

Corsair H50 Hydro Series. = 86 Dollars.

These are found on Komplett.dk

For the Danish crowd I have some list links.(Specs are not in Danish so it's for everyone to read, its just in Danish currency)

AMD : (including H50)

http://www.komplett.dk/k/shoplist.as...6-729A42FDCDDF

that's around 7290 DKR with Shipping.
Which is about 1410 Dollars or so.(1407)

Intel: (without H50)

http://www.komplett.dk/k/shoplist.as...7-7F0D86EA78B2

is about 7295 DKR with shipping.
Which is around 1410 Dollars(1408)
Were I to add the H50 it would be 7744 DKR with Shipping.
Which is 1495 Dollars.

If possible I will get the H50 on the intel rig but it all depends on the price I can find a monitor for.
..well that turned out longer than expected, if i missed anything in this crazy text please let me know.

I do apologize if it's the wrong forum. I'm new here.
Other than that i hope you guys can help me out abit.(been a while since i built a pc)

Plain and simple, the 2500k dominates the CPU scene at the moment. It's awesome for everything.

And if you ever plan on OC'ing, you need a cooler besides the stock cooler.

Thats easy, i5 over phenom, therefore go for the Intel motherboard. The motherboard is great and you should be able top pull of a Speed of atleast 3.7GHz and a max speed of ~4.5GHz

That's kinda what i was leaning towards but it's been a long time since i did any hardware purchasing - though 3.7 and 4.5Ghz that would be with an aftermarket cooler and not the stock one right?
i have to ask though since it seems RAM has turned into a science is the RAM I've picked good?

*Edit*
I'm saving my old Dvd Drive which works fine so that's something i wont need to spend money on btw.

Above rig i don't see much changed other than GPU and PSU,RAM but will the Mobo even support 1600Mhz RAM? i can actually get the above RAM with 1600Mhz for the same price.

I appreciate all the help so far btw.

The Asus P67 Pro will work just fine with 1600mhz ram. I got one with 1600mhz 6-8-6-20 and have no issues.

ya,that mobo works fine even with a 2000mhz ram,but u dont need anything above 1600mhz,
CORSAIR VENGEANCE is the best ram for u
for the gpu try to pick:
msi hd6950 2gb twin frozrIII

i see, then i guess ill go with the 1600 Mhz CL9 for the RAM, thanks

i dont know about the MSI HD6950 compared to the one i picked though, its about 40-50 dollars more for a mere margin of an increase in performance. though seeing as im not planning on eyefinity or resolutions above 1920x1080 i could probably go for a 1gb version and save myself some money though it's practically the same price for the lowered 2gb version though, and i could if lucky flash this to a 6970. i guess i could do that with the MSI one too though if lucky.

i am however wondering if i will have any noticeable change with the i5 compared the AMD phenom. it's a gaming rig so according to benchmarks i wouldnt see much differnece, then again i guess the i5 will last me longer.

i know the intel may be faster in some things but u can get a faster amd phenom2x4 965 3.4ghz black for 150 at micro center, for 188 you could prolly get the 970 or up.

in gaming you wont really see any differance at 1900x1080

I kmow people love intel but amd is cheaper and the mobo will be cheaper most of the time

note:I hate intel and will always use amd so my opnion my b bias lol
