Pretty much.

I think a monthly or bimonthly release would be ideal, having one main project (focusing on security and performance without major rehauls), one beta project (Focusing on performance and rehauls), and one 'legacy' project (to patch security holes found in older projects).

Google seems to release a new version every single day, but they have a lot more resources they can put into a browser. I'm pretty sure following after Google isn't the best way to go for Firefox, but who knows, I've been wrong before.

Meh you can bash FireFox all you want.

I'm still going to use the latest version, provided all of my addons have support for it.

Nah, it's simply that it's what Google Chrome does, and they lost some users to Chrome, which they are trying to get back, somehow.

It's pointless, and I don't like it.

Yeah, people should just choose the browser that best supports their browsing needs. and I hate chrome's favorite management system, but I still use it on a virtual machine, just so I can play around with it.

They are moving the numbers up to catch up with Chrome and IE. It makes sense. Dumb people out there think the higher numbers are better, and pick another browser over Firefox, so this is their solution.
