[IGN] Nintendo Set to Reveal New Console - Page 15

This platform will probably be in the leagues of the PS3/360 but for competition of the PS4 and the next Xbox.
In other words, Nintendo is going to be so far behind it's going to be a joke.[/U]
I'm guessing the #1 concern for Nintendo right now is releasing a console that devs can port their A-list titles to like the Xbox/Ps3. #2, they always want to make a console that doesn't have to be heavily subsidized.

They're not going to be behind b/c the #1 concern for consumers is quality and selection of games. That's why the Ps3 lagged for so many years behind the Xbox. If Nintendo releases theirs now in 2011/2012, it'll probably be 2 uncontested years before MS or Sony release their new console and then another 2 yrs for the games to start arriving in quantity.

If Nintendo is about to announce a console and MS and Sony haven't even gotten to the drawing board, Nintendo will have a few uncontested years. By the time MS or Sony release a competitor, Nintendo will have dug in, will most likely be selling their consoles at a profit while MS and Sony have to heavily subsidize, have a library of games and there won't be a ton of discernible difference in graphics quality b/c most consumers and real game players don't take 10 hrs dissecting the minute detail differences between screenshots.

And what Nintendo doesn't seem to understand is that developers like video game ports. They highly dislike making completely different games for different platforms. It just so happens that the general public likes it too, aside from the 999th Mario game.
This is exactly why they should make this move. They'll finally have a console that devs can port to while having a bit more power than the 360/Ps3 and they'll be selling them cheaply w/o having to subsidize.

They could easily take over the market if they get a few good exclusive titles first.

The Nintendo Wii 2 will apparently bring a whole new controller with an "HD" screen on it, and will be more powerful than both the PS3 and Xbox 360, according to CVG.

Quoting a 'well-placed industry source', CVG suggests that Nintendo will push the boat out for its next generation Wii successor, suggesting there will be a screen on the controller itself.

So much for Nintendo going 3rd party I guess.

I would be shocked if it is not more powerful than the ps3 or 360. Hopefully it's not another wii. I want proper games, proper pads, proper graphics and some Nintendo genius.

The GPU will. It's a virtually certainty.

Exactly, a GTX 460 is more powerful than an 8800 (PS3) or a Radeon X whatever series circa 2005 (xbox).

Basically, what I'm saying is that cheaper, mid-range GPUs of today will barbeque the stank out of the extremely high-end GPUs of yesteryear, making it EASY for Nintendo to come out with a console that can do DX11 and HD.
