[IGN] Nintendo Set to Reveal New Console - Page 4

A true HD Wii will give Nintendo a great head start!

And that will pressure Sony and MS as well.

I agree but at the same time it was missing a key graphical component: HD.
Games like Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Brawl were FANTASTIC graphical games. But, they weren't in HD and when put up on a high resolution screen they looked worse than an upscaled DVD.

It's really a shame since some of the 10 are truly phenomenal games. My wii has largely been collecting dust for a year now though...

I actually like the Wii. Playing games on PS3 or Xbox makes me rage and just want to go back to PC gaming. PS3/Xbox games are so generic. I rather be PC gaming.

Making it more powerful than the Xbox or the PoS is very easy. The question is how much more powerful. If it's a PS3 with a less crappy GPU then no thanks. Console nowadays are just PCs with a game oriented OS and that sucks.

The Wii managed to somehow make it different because of the gameplay. The PS3 kind of made it different with its Cell... kind of. Oh and the Xbox is just an entry level PC honestly.
So I hope Nintendo will take the good points of the Wii: the wii created it's own style of gaming, making it actually worth something next to a PC simply because it's an alternative.
And the good points of its competitors: bringing HD to console gaming.

But we are in 2011, I expect more than just HD from a console. I want an interesting architecture coupled with powerful hardware. Add to that interesting gameplay possibilities and we have the perfect console that doesn't compete with PC but just offers an alternative.

Nintendo has good ideas sometimes. As long as they don't try to make the damn thing shaped like a cube or 3D capable (because it simply sucks with current tech), they should find a way to create a Wii effect 2.0.
Sadly this is Nintendo we're talking about.

Going by how they like to cater to everyone and release cheap consoles, don't expect this to have insane hardware. Of course, it's easy to make a console that out performs the current 360/ps3.

This is just a silly move on Nintendo's part. Unless they can bring something AMAZING feature/gameplay wise, they will never be taken seriously by gamers.

+1 Chain

Total friends who bought wii on release: 20

Total friends who used it more than 2 years: 0

Wii was basically a expensive brick. Even after i got it mod chipped to use it as a DVD player (and other legal stuffs), i have not touched mine in 2 years aprox.

Games were just poor remakes or games that they spliced on Motion Control to games that never needed it

If they cant pack in more power than the 6 year old Xbox 360 then they really weren't trying.

Nintendo is an amazing game company that makes quality hardware. The problem is that they lack foresight. Had they used optical storage for the N64, the likelihood of them retaining their enormous third-party support was much higher.

The Wii was, once again, a quality system, but how they didn't see gamers flocking to HD consoles is beyond me. They had no real online infrastructure despite the industry clearly moving in that direction.

History will repeat itself, it'll give them a shot in the arm and, since they don't sell hardware at a loss, they'll come out of it largely unscathed, but they'll once again be the laughingstock of the so-called "hardcore" gamer.

I appreciate the types of games Nintendo games. They're among a select group that's making truly fun games anymore, but they just aren't moving with the industry. It's less painful for me seeing as I don't always agree with that direction either, but it pains me to see such a great company's reputation taking a plunge.

Exactly, that's what I said on my previous post. The PoS and the Xbox are basically PCs with their own OS. How is that better than a PC? For Sony and Microsoft, they're definitely better because way easier to control, but for us they aren't.
Xbox/PS3 gaming: very often dumbed down PC gaming.
The Wii is different, even if good games aren't common, it still offers an alternative to PC gaming.

Aren't wii games ready for 1080? If you use dolphin you can upscale them and add AA....they look pretty good. If a Wii HD can do the same...just imagine .
