The Wii was, once again, a quality system, but how they didn't see gamers flocking to HD consoles is beyond me. They had no real online infrastructure despite the industry clearly moving in that direction.
History will repeat itself, it'll give them a shot in the arm and, since they don't sell hardware at a loss, they'll come out of it largely unscathed, but they'll once again be the laughingstock of the so-called "hardcore" gamer.
I appreciate the types of games Nintendo games. They're among a select group that's making truly fun games anymore, but they just aren't moving with the industry. It's less painful for me seeing as I don't always agree with that direction either, but it pains me to see such a great company's reputation taking a plunge.
Please look up the philips CDi
. It was the result of nintendo having a falling out with sony over a CD peripheral. They were planning CD when the super nintendo was still out.

I agree with you that only a handful of games outshine ps2 graphics, but the hardware in the Wii is about 2-and-a-half times as powerful as a ps2.
Nintendo could have a winner on its hands, The highest res they have to deal with is 1080p which any midrange graphics card can handle today. But they've really failed to attract 3rd party AAA titles in the past, and will likely have trouble this time around depending on what is inside the thing.
