i7 920 DO, overclock help.

Hey, I accidently reset my cmos and lost all the option that had my 920 running at 4.0 I used a old guide from way back so I figured I'd come here and get some fresh info on how to get the most out of this chip.

I was reading this guide and had it running at 4.2 but the voltages where too high and it seems its more fit for the C0's.

http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=20028&mpage=1

I suppose I will start out by disabling all the crap that affects the oc like speedstep and all that? I'm just lost of what to set the voltages to when starting out as I know leaving them on auto is bad.

I have a decent cooler so anything up to 1.4v or so will be fine. Specs are in my sig, the Noctua NH-U12P SE has the stock fan pulling and I put a nice scythe slipstream to push and have that running on the max using a zalman fanmate. Also another thing to add is my ram is rated for 1.5v 1600mhz, cas 9 and my power supply is more then enough. My MB has the latest bios too.

Skip down to the "quick and dirty" method section if you're in a hurry.
Have fun!

at about 1.37 I was getting 80c or so load via intelburntest. I'm also looking at picking up a noctua dh-14.

Another member asked about settings for 4.0+. I posted exactly what I had for 4.2. If I ever find that post again I'll link it.

Mine was a little under 1.25v for 4.0 at 191x21. I was loading at 76C or so, and I didn't want to run those kinds of temps 24/7.

Hah...I really can't believe people are hitting 1.4v on air without melting things. My cooler must be lamesauce

I have vdroop off. I also wouldn't recommend running it at 1.4v 24/7. 80*C is hot. I try to keep mine below 68*c at load

80C for a fairly short amount of time just enough to run a stability test is fine for me.
