13.3" is gonna be difficult to find with your specs/price range, especially regarding gaming, and imo as a desktop replacement you may find it small. 15.6" is too big for lugging around imo. 14", while not something I'd take hiking, is reasonably unimposing depending on the model.

The Sony E-Series may be worth looking at, about $880 with a GPU.

Wow nice find. I had pretty much settled on [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004LRO7QQ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER"]this Acer[/ame], but for $25 more you've found an i5 and a better gpu.

The only difference is the Asus probably has better battery life, but to me the difference between 5 and 10 hours is less than the difference between i3 and i5.

The only thing I don't like is that the hard drive doesn't look like it's switchable, and there's a DVD drive that I'll never use. Really wish I could put an SSD in there later down the road.

Update
ARGG. Everytime I find a laptop I think I like, I find some review that scares me. This Acer Aspire has reviews saying that the screen isn't very good, that the hard drive has awful partitions, and that switching between integrated and dedicated graphics is a hassle.

At this point I'm starting to care less about price. I need this thing to replace my desktop. I'll spend top dollar.

I need something that makes switching hard drives easy (I plan to upgrade to SSD), I'd like an i5 (but would go with i3 if it meant it was cheaper/more battery life), I need at least 5 hours battery, and I'd like a good gpu.

If I'm going to spend $800, the build quality (and the screen!) need to be pretty good, not just "meh".

Any thoughts? I'll spend $1200 if it means I get a damn good machine. But so far I can only find $800 laptops that attempt (and fail) at being better than they really are.
