Crucial C300 or M4 (64GB) - confused

Thread Starter
I was about to purchase the Crucial C300 but heard about the Crucial M4 coming out in a couple of weeks. The drive will be used for my OS and applications (MS Office, Internet) and files will be on the 2 X 1TB Samsung F3s (raid 1) I will order with it.

1. Given that both seem to be of similar price should I just buy the C300 now or should I wait a couple of weeks for the M4?

2. I have read that the C300 may actually be faster for reads (which is what I essentially need it for) over the M4; if there is such difference is it negligible in real terms? (I'm not bothered about benchmarking and milliseconds but just something very fast)

At most I could save £12 so which one would you go for? Please do answer as I might just order the C300 before it goes out of stock if there is not much point waiting.

Thank you.

for 12 euros? get the m4, the c300 is nice and really fast but for 12 euros the 100mbps of sequential read difference could be worth it.

So what's this about random read being faster on the C300 which is what actually matters for read speed (and has apparently been sacrificed on the M4 for higher sequential speeds)?

Sorry I'm a bit of a novice with computers.
um unfortunately the 64gb version is apparently slower than the c300 64gb in terms of 4k. yes the m4 is faster in sequential speed when you install programs and writing huge files. but loading pictures and going through folders c300 should be quicker. however i doubt you'll notice much difference. probably 1 seconds of load time at most.

Ok it's a teeny bit slower for reads but I will not notice the difference (I could bear the 1 sec difference). I guess the only reason worth waiting is because the M4 is "new" - that's what is between them.

I am still a bit dumbfounded why they would a make a newer one slower (in the area that matters most for SSDs)?

beats me, i was actually one of these thinking the 25nm would be so much faster and more stable and cheaper than the 34nm. boy was i wrong lol

Well not entirely wrong though as it is better in ways and like you said, there is no real terms difference between the two right?

Do remember you advised that I go for the M4!

If you haven't bought one yet, just get whatever is cheaper. The differences are so minimal it doesn't even matter.
