Warning: XFX's silent revision on the 6970 - Page 2

Standard XFX procedure.

This is why you don't waste your time and money on their products.

Least their PSU line uses a good OEM.

More reason to stick with MSI, ASUS, Sapphire etc.

@OP, thanks for posting, nice to see a once stellar company turn to complete garbage in a span of two years. Absolutely pathetic on XFX's part.

The XFX employee I PM'd on [H] did offer to send me a replacement, after he looked for them at XFX headquarters, but asked me not to tell anyone as the stocks were very low. I assume XFX doesn't want customers e-mailing en masse asking for a replacement. I appreciate he tried to fix the situation for me, and in spite of asking me not to say anything, I did want to mention they did try to fix it... but only after I contacted them. This also does not pardon past transgressions, such as blaming vendors incorrectly, the shady practice of altering designs and not changing model names properly, or simply admitting to their mistake and apologizing honestly for it. XFX already sells non reference models, such as the HD-679X-ZDFC... why all the smoke and mirrors for this particular card? It's completely senseless.

As for replacing the card... well, this is all they have now. Was I suppose to ask for a 6990 to compensate me for my troubles? Maybe I should have

There's nothing wrong with the card though, it's just not the card he wanted/ordered.

I don't get the hate. There was a revision, it happens. The biggest giveaway is the lack of AMD above the PCIE slot.

The "hate" is due to the fact they altered the card so much without changing the model number to make it look like the card was still reference while it wasn't. This resulted in me buying a 120$ waterblock that I now cannot use, because I based my purchase on the model number of the 400$ GPU I was buying.

If a customer cannot trust the model number, and must resort to physical inspection of the component to ensure of what he is getting, you do not find this unethical or wrong in any shape or form?

Again, you won't be able to see the lack of AMD logo until you open the card. Opened box = 15% restocking fee. Plus, XFX's charging the same price in spite of using cheaper components to build the card. Cheaper components = less OC capacity.

All of this does not warrant mistrust towards XFX for you? Hate might be strong, but if you are completely unaffected by this, I find it surprising.
