Decent build, however, for $65 more, you could go to an intel 2500k. For motherboard, you could grab the Asus P8P67-M (P67 chipset) for the same price.

You could also go with the Corsair 550VX for $51 CAD which would save you about $19. Plenty of power for that rig (and I'm not a fan of OCZ power supplies).

All total, for about $45 more the intel setup would be a better package.

2500k would be like $150 more. And I dont think there will be much of a difference between both builds in gaming.

There's certainly a difference in gaming. A lot of which depends on various factors, but...

To get the same gaming performance on my 2600K as a Phenom II X4 955 BE @ 4GHz I would have to disable HT and downclock my CPU to under 3GHz, probably in the 2.6-2.8GHz range. Considering this along with the fact that most 2500K/2600K's can get to 4.6-4.8GHz w/ease; IMHO, there's no reason to buy old tech unless you are on an extreme budget.

Also, someone I know is running a HD 6950 2GB on a Q6600 @ 3.5GHz and is very CPU bound in the games he plays.

What type of games are cpu bound? I wanna play BF3, Crysis1,2, Metro 2033, and maybe some of those WoW type of games. Do you think that the CPU will affect it gaming A LOT, or just a little?
bf3,wow will be very demanding and starcraft too....but c 1,2 and metro r not that cpu demanding....

Nope, Cpu would be about $65 more, motherboard the same price and I suggested a cheaper but better quality power supply.

Where did you get a number like $150?

because ASUS M4A79XTD is $90 on newegg and Gd65 is $167
phenom II X4 955 is $134 with PM and 2500k is $210 with PM
so amd mobo and cpu is $224 and intel mobo and cpu is $337 which is $113
O wow lmao I was far off XD I'll try to find some benchmarks or something to help me decide wink.gif
