Next up. tomorrow morning(or in a few hours) im going to go get a Silver Arrow from the local Microcenter. I'm soooo in love with the San Ace 1011's I'm going to try to stick ONE in the center and see how it fair's as I dont give a damn about having silent PC...just nice and cool!!!
CM R4's are OK fans if you like LED fans, but if you can live without LED's there are TONS of 120mm fans that ware just plain rediculas. I also paired my san ace fans with a Rheosmart. I dont mind the wind tunnel effect my PC now has, and I think it will be fun to have a Self-Controlled Wind Tunnel for a case...I plan on testing the aerodynamics of hot wheels and other small household objects in my down time:P

Once all my 120mm fans are swaped for 1011's I want to get a clear side pannel, and do This fan mod. I want to make it so that the LED's are not on the same power channel as the fans...So when i turn down the fans though the controler the LED's stay at full power. There is even a button set up on the case. Just take some custom wireing:P

Lol! Yeah, I have Delta's in P/P. Trust me, after a year...it will begin to get on your nerves. Though you may be able to get by with the fan controller, I'm at the end of my patience with them. Not to mention when my gpu fan ramps up....argh! Wanting relative quiet after all of that. smile.gif

Corsair H70, you just can't go wrong with one, the one biggest problem I had with high end air coolers is that they just can't seem to sustain a good temperature for long periods of time, Ambient air seems to affect them a whole lot more than water cooling.

Anyhow that was my personal experience, Go with a full water loop or start out with the Corsair h70, its worth the money.

OP get one of these:
Antec KUHLER H2O 920 (this beats the corsair H70)
http://store.antec.com/Product/cooling-cpu_cooler/kuhler-h20-620-liquid-cooler/PREORD-H2O.aspx

They beat all the air cooling solutions (according to bench marks) and its closed loop so you dont have to worry about leaks. This is a good cooling solution, as soon as I can afford one I will get it.

I cant stand hybrid water coolers in a case can can fit a decent tower cooler. I havent seen a review yet that makes the HXX "water" coolers worth it imo. If you have a small case thats another story, but if you want water, go with a full blown water kit, not some hybrid that is out performed by lots of air coolers at this point.

As far as the fans bothering me, I have yet another solution. When i game (and the fans are ramped up) I turn this little black knob on my 140W logitec 5.1 surround system...amazingly I cant hear the fan's past the bullets and explosions(BC2) lol. This works for me and my wife, but others may not like the idea lol. When not in use I turn down all the fans....It also helps that I live in a house with 6 kids. Ages 1 1/2 to 9:eek:...so noise is trivial at this point lol.

Those closed loop systems are not as good as most make it seem. Look at some reputable reviews from good review sites (not like FrostyTech...lol!). Here something to think about:

3.2Ghz
32ghz.png

@ 4Ghz
4ghz.png

7.5 degree temp variance between the Kuhler & the D14 under load @ 4Ghz. Amazing difference in temps, and don't think that value will change much with differing ambient temps.

I can agree with what you are saying with regard to air cooling being more reactive to ambient temps, but I know that going into the setup. For the most part my office is climate control with central air condition in the summer, but we do open the windows on cooler days (below 80) to get some fresh air and give the A/C a break.

While the H70's are nice, I have yet to see a review or test that shows me it is any better that the high end air coolers. In fact, I have seen several times where the Noctua and Silver Arrow actually beat the H70 on OC'd setups. Added to the fact that in order to keep up with the high end air cooler I've read that H70 gets rather noisy, so I don't think it is what I need at this time.

I have been looking at one of these for my HTPC though, they are nice unit.

I saw the 920 a few days ago when looking around and it seems to be pretty nice. What I don't like is that in order for it to beat the H70 as you mention and hang with high end air cooler, it has to use the "Extreme" fan mode which is crazy loud. If I leave it on "Silent" mode it hangs in the middle/back of the pack and doesn't really fit my needs.

http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1590/1/

When the reviewer says:
Quote:
The Kuhler H2O 920 took me by surprise when I fired up the "Extreme" setting for the first time. In the "Silent" mode the cooler is very quiet, I couldn't make out the 920's fans over my Scythe case fans I use in the test system. When I set it to "Extreme" all I could think was ***. It is by far the loudest set of fans I have used so far. I could literally hear the system roughly 35 feet from my workbench.

It kind of turned me off to the whole thing.
