need input on RAID card - Page 2

I have 3x WD Caviar blacks and one Samsung F3. All 1TB in size and all truncated by 10GB. I have aggressive read-ahead and write-cache enabled. Striping size is set at 128k. I've done pretty much everything I can think of but if I write a large file (like a blu-ray image) the speed always drops to 50MB/sec or less. If you could shed some light on that I would love you forever (not really lol). Also for some odd reason the CPU usage will rise up to 100%. This is with an Areca 1220 raid card too.

so out of curiosity did i setup my RAID correctly from my motherboard?? I enabled RAID 1 and chose two drives then chose RAID 1 and selected two more drives.

In essence what would be the best option for storing files that are very important.

You definitely should be getting better performance out of a dedciated controller too.

Depends on the amount of data and how much you are willing to spend.

If it is important, you must be looking at backup solutions in additional to redundency.

What is that? How do I check and is there a reason it wouldn't be aligned?

multiple levels of backup, one onsite (offline drives not in your main pc), one offsite (friend or relative's house), one cloud (dropbox, amazon, etc).
