Best $500 build

I know threads like these can become rather repetitive. So hopefully by lowering my overall budget, throwing in or subtracting a few of my current pieces, will test the limits of the $ and see how creative you can all get

I work pt and go to school full time so my budget for this build will be $400-$600

Current set up:
AMD Athalon(64) x2 duel core 3800 (2000mhz) - this thing is awful -
MSI MS-7260 (mobo)
5gig ddr 2 ram
GTX 260 maxcore oc
SteelSeries Merc Stealth - love this keyboard - G500, Mid level case, Windows 7 64, “21 screen, genaric dvd drive, new (best buy special) Dynex 500wt power supply. Western Digital, Caviar Black, SATA 500gb

So one idea I had was to snag a AMD Athlon II X4 640 (100$ on newegg) or AMD Athlon II X2 250 $50 and a cheap mb / ram to go with it and upgrade my 260 to a 570 for $300 ish or sc560Ti for $260 I have to be honest though I don’t know much of an upgrade as a whole this would be, and where the bigger returns would come from.

Or go for 2500k $220, there are so many mobo's to choose from its overwhelming but I'll probably only ever have 1 card maybe 2 (Im sure I could find another used gtx locally for $100) as examples asrock P67 Pro3 is $150, asus P8p67 deluxe r3 is $240, Asrock p67 extreme4 (b3) is $190 and Asus sabertooth is $220

I'm Canadian so its harder to find deals on other trusted sites besides newegg.ca Either way that eats threw most of my budget. 220+200.

There is some nice ripjaw ram at 50
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16820231277
or 100
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16820231428

Will I need to upgrade my power supply as well? And how bad/far behind is my current video card for mmo's and fps's? (Im running at 22-32 fps, low settings and lag close combat in cod) adding a $30 cooler, some paste (to overclock) and Im eating bread and cheese for a week lol.

I will gladly give rep for those who spend a few minutes giving some insightful tips and creative spins but more then that I would genuinely appreciate the help.

I also hope this thread could help others who are either in the begining stages of a budget build or thinking about upgrading as most of the current pieces I have can be found really cheap (besides win 7 64)

Well depending on how patient you are, you can wait for deals to pop up for each component. Here was my most recent build for exactly $500 after rebates.

Intel Core i3-2100 + MSI H61M-E33: $109 (Microcenter)
Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3: $65 (Newegg)
Silverstone PS05B: $40 (Amazon)
XFX XXX 650W: $55 (TigerDirect)
Sparkle GTX 460 1GB: $120 (TigerDirect)
Intel X-25M 80GB SSD G2: $100 (Craigslist)
Airlink101 Wireless 11N USB: $11 (Meritline)

um... I think you were missing a few key components such as a case, hard drive, wireless card, etc.. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I have all of those things listed under the "current set up:"
The parts you listed in the quote above are cheap and I assume others following this thread looking to "upgrade" would have them laying around or in their current builds as well

the op havent mentioned whether he need a new hdd,pc case...etc.
He'll probably take this parts from his old rig,
he mentioned that he needs a new cpu, high end gpu, psu, ram, mobo for around $500,
I would simply oppose your idea of getting a ssd for that budget,if he gets ssd...he'll have to cheap out on his gpu,cpu
