LG E2770V, 27" IPS FullHD, 400$ - Page 5

It's smaller brother appears to have UH-IPS panel. link
I suppose the 27" version is the same.

Here is something about IPS panels, including some data on UH-IPS.

Not sure but ill surely let everyone who are interested in this monitor know. I've used the U2410 before so ill compare the coating on this monitor to that monitor.

14ms response eek.gif Forget gaming.

This is still an insane price considering most IPS monitors this size are over $1k.

EDIT: Hmm, only 1920x1080 though.

Yea i know its only 1920x1080 but it's good enough for general gaming and stuffs imo. it doesn't stress the GPU too much too smile.gif.
According to JB12345:
Quote:
The response time is actually pretty good for an IPS. The difference is that LG has presented the BTB responsetime while for instance Dell presents the GTG responsetime. The LG is 6 ms (GTG)

U2311 has 8 ms (GTG) and higher than 14 ms BTB.

So this LG actually has lower response time than U2311 and the other Dell IPS-panels which are pretty good for gaming.

Also the 120hz is interpolated, so you'll enjoy a healthy dose of input lag aswell unless you turn truemotion off.

You guys are too caught up on response times which have been aggressively over exaggerated. As long as 14ms is an honest response time and not an absolute best case scenario, it will be fine for gaming. For no ghosting all you need is a response time faster than 1000 / 60Hz = 16.6667ms, and 14ms is indeed faster.

While "TruMotion 120Hz" is interpolated and terrible for gaming, it is a feature commonly used on LCD TVs to "enhance" video.

And just like on many such LCD TVs, this monitor also advertises a "Thru Mode" feature which improved video reaction time for gaming by turning off image processing features such as TruMotion.

Really, this just seems like an LCD TV in pint size form, but without a tuner.

This monitor is undoubtedly targeting PC users with a focus on media playback first and casual gaming second.

This.

And I have seen no evidence that LG is using "B2B" instead of G2G response times. The 14 ms is identical to the other LG IPS panels in G2G transition that don't use RTC. Undoubtedly, this panel will be the same. No RTC (like the Viewsonic alternative to the U2311h. it also has a 14ms response time). http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/content/viewsonic_vp2365wb.htm "The Viewsonic VP2365wb has a specified response time of 14ms, which is without any mention of being "grey to grey" (G2G). This is because the screen does not have a Response Time Compensation (RTC) impulse applied, unlike some other competing screens."

The trumotion is what kills it. It's never going to be a real 120hz monitor. It may be acceptable (even superior to TN panels) for pure gaming if you leave the TruMotion turned off.

Thread Starter
This is more or less what we know.
"The panel offers a 1920 x 1080 resolution first of all, and so this is not one of the current 27” IPS modules that are commonly used since those are higher 2560 x 1440 resolutions. It looks as if this will be a new module from LG.Display, probably part of their e-IPS range. The screen offers a reported 14ms response time according to LG’s website, but some sources have also mentioned a 6ms G2G response time. You would hope that RTC technology has been used to boost pixel responsiveness if this is aimed at gamers. LG are also touting its ‘Super LED’ backlighting unit which also allows them to boast a 5 million:1 dynamic contrast ratio. The panel will be W-LED backlit of course and DCR figures should always be taken with a pinch of salt.

For gamers there is a Thru Mode option available, designed to bypass internal electronics and reduce input lag. LG have also incorporated their 120Hz TruMotion technology here which is normally reserved for LCD TV’s and not commonly used in desktop monitors. As opposed to a true 120Hz screen (which would also support 3D content), this is an interpolated 120Hz. It’s operation involves Motion Estimated Motion Compensation (MEMC) which “estimates” intermediate frames and inserts them in between the normal 60 frames being produced from a normal 60Hz signal. This creates an interpolated 120 frames which is designed to improve perceived motion blur. It has been used for a considerable amount of time in LCD TV’s, with further versions giving rise to higher frequencies such as 240Hz TruMotion through other techniques. It’s good to see 120Hz TruMotion included in a desktop monitor for a change, although buyers should be wary of the differences compared to a true 120Hz input and support."
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/news_archive/23.htm#lg_e2770v

Just as bojinglebells says response time isnt really a problem any more. It is basically (together with dynamic contrast ratio) used as a marketing trick to fool costumers with low knowledge. Cause if you look att those numbers TN usually are best but it doesnt say much about the monitor anyway so it doesnt really matter, especially when those numbers usually are false when tested. Input lag and frequence. That is what you should pay atention to if you are a gamer.

I'd say TruMotion is something that makes this monitor appealing to what I'd wager is its intended niche. Like I said before, it really seems to be targeting media playback first, and TruMotion is a feature that many users might like in that regard.

1080p? Check

large size for personal viewing? Check

(and 1080p at such a large size makes it less desirable for a production monitor, my U2711 is 2560x1440 @ 27")

Plenty of inputs? 1 x DVI and 2 x HDMI means you can hook up a computer, and two of either a 360, PS3, and an HD Satellite/Cable box, or whatever else.

Although its too bad there are no component cables, so no easy Wii lovin' tongue.gif
