seeing how its made into the motherboard you are still screwed. thats why i baked mine. 380 for 10 minutes but its a huge gamble and i damn sure wouldnt pay 200 bucks for something that doesnt work. without the video card (that cannot be removed) you are basically buying it for parts.

I don't mean to sound like a prick, but I'm not you. I'm not paying $200 for something that doesn't work... I'm paying $200 to fix a working laptop so that I can actually leave my desk with it.

I'm not all that blessed with a higher spending limit, so I am doing what I can on a budget to get what I need so I can continue working more efficiently.

I don't really give a damn whether I have a 6860 or some brand new top of the line Alienware Laptop, both of them are still WAY TOO powerful for what I am actually doing on them.

If I need to play games, or watch a movie... I'll use the desktop. The monitor is much nicer as is the sound system. I don't need a laptop to be the holy grail.

The damn thing works, I have not had any problem out of the functionality of the computer... the only thing that pisses me off is that I can't leave my desk with it.

So ... what do I want to do? Save money! First Priority! So $200 < anything over $200. If I get a few months out of it... that's still going to net me a profit for what I invested in it. So don't go out and spend $200 to fix something that is too much for what you actually need... go out and blow $1200 on something that won't do what the $200 thing will do any better.

I'm not a gamer, I was a gamer.. and the 6860 kicked a ton of ass.

ok, well then just do whatever you want without taking any input from someone who actually owns 2 gateway FX laptops. they were great budget gaming laptops 3 years go, now they are outdated JUNK not worth putting 270 bucks into. if you want to do it then fine, just dont come here to complain when your video card goes out.

I'm not putting $270 into it... I put $200 (Shipped) into it.

Trust me, if the video card goes out on it... no one is going to hear a peep from me.

I posted this before I had the offer for the 7805u for $200. When the difference was $130ish... I was basically wanting to know if the extra $130 was worth it. Come to find out.. no it really isn't.

I have taken your input and instead of throwing $400 or so away, I'm only spitting out $200.

Now let's look at this optimistically for a moment. Let's say I put the $200 into it, and it lasts a couple years. No matter what computer I buy now, it'll be an outdated piece of junk by that time anyway.

I looked a few different places trying to find a different computer which would compete if not be better than the Gateway FX's, because that's my budget.

I just need something that is mobile, that I can run Notepad++ on and Xampp for script testing.. nothing more. You never really took into account that I have a budget. And honestly if I can get even just 6 months out of $200... that would be equivalent to 2.5 Years out of $1,000. Price/Time Ratio suggests it's a decent investment.

When I get my hands on a larger budget and I am looking for something a little bit more serious, I will gladly sit here and go through each and every post with a fine comb to weed out the weaker computers from the better computers.

Any computer that I buy for my budget is going to be an outdated piece of junk anyway. Why not save a few bucks?

I'm going to put a post-it note on my computer, and the exact day that my GPU goes out or the computer is rendered completely useless... I will let you know. So at that time, you can gladly rub it in my face.

The main issue is when I look at how much I had already put into the P 6860 FX, and it just sits there completely useless as a laptop. Yeah I could use it as a desktop all day, but it's not going to compete with my current Desktop.

It got shampoo'd early on when I had it, so I didn't get to completely exploit the benefits of the Laptop and it is the First and Only Laptop I have ever owned. So why not get some more time out of it? Why not get my money's worth? Hell if it does last me a couple more years.... it'll be a great investment of Cost/Use.

And there are 2 Gateway FX Laptops in this house, so far neither one of them has had any major defects with them. I honestly think compared to what happened to the 6860, and the current condition it is in... damn thing is a survivor.

Hell I will have 2 HDs, 2 Batteries, spare Wifi and a few other spare parts, plus it comes with a Fresh Install of Windows 7 Professional Full (CD/Packaging Included). I can use that on any computer I want and that is worth $200 easy by itself. I'm not "that" stupid, just budgeting.
