To put things into a semi-perspective.

Today, I bought 100 Pack of DVD+R's, when I got home, I tried to copy a DVD and realized the source was -R and the copy wouldn't work. Of course, I could just create an image, and burn that image, but I want to just do a straight up copy.

I went back to Wal-Mart, explained to them I got the wrong pack, and although this was technically my fault, they still exchanged the DVD's eventhough I had already opened the pack. I was in and out in 5 - 10 minutes without hassles.

Wal-Mart's exchange/refund policies are better than Best Buy's ( that's a sad comparison ). Heck, my patio table broke once after a storm, and they still gave me a new one, 1 YEAR AFTER I had purchased it. Best part is, I didn't go in with the intention of exchanging it, but went in looking to buy another, but the manager offered to replace it. That's what you call excellent customer service, sadly, I can't say the same for Best Buy, and thus, I no longer shop there.
Definitely can't compete with Walmart's return policy, they will return just about anything for almost any reason. They are pretty awesome about that and its impossible to compete with that. I cant say much about your printer situation though since I don't know the exact comparison, but I am willing to bet it was a random couple of people that just didnt understand you are supposed to get equal or better technology value. When I get people sent to me with "junk-outs" where they give replacement value, I am usually doing them for laptops. I look at the processor, speed, RAM, whether it had a dedicated graphics card, any special features, etc, and basically find whatever we have thats as close to comparable as we have, and if all we have is better I match better. Thats how I do it at least and my store's never fought me on any of my conclusions on current value worth, and neither have customers who usually end up getting an upgrade. I just recently got 750 bucks back for my 2 year old Asus G51 that I dropped, that I paid 1k for, so it worked out perfectly for me. But thats usually how its handled.

I hear ya, the way you deal with things is how it's supposed to be dealt with. So you're one of the few that actually knows what they're doing.

My printer situation went from 2 customer service reps, and then to the managers. They all wanted to give me a lesser value printer, and thus the 3 hour frustration. It shouldn't have been that complicated. I had the 3 year extended warranty and the terms were pretty clear. They just didn't want to honor the terms, and were trying to weasel their way out of it by giving me a lesser priced printer.

Like I said, I had 2 other experiences at 2 other BB's, so it wasn't just an isolated incident at one store. That's what has prevented from shopping at BB all together.

Keep up the good work at your store though.

After I quit my local Best Buy, I started work as a tech supervisor (stretching it, but that's the term) for Office Max. GOOD GOD. Our Warranty policies boggled my mind. I don't understand how people could NOT buy it compared to Best Buy. Printer less then 100 bucks? 15 dollars, 3 years, nearly anything goes, more inclusive then BB's, and doesn't require send off. Bring it, get new printer. Best part? We don't do it based on features and such, we do it based on cold hard cash paid. I did one JUST THIS MORNING, lady bought a 200 dollar printer 2 years ago, it died. She brought it in, we credited her 200 dollars, we found here a 300 dollar printer that was on sale for 180. SHE UPGRADED HER PRINTER AND IT ONLY COST HER THE PRICE OF THE WARRANTY, in this case, 36 dollars. Having worked CC and BB both, seeing this kind of stuff, no hassles, no runaround, NO BEUAROCRACY!!!!! just blows me away. And being the depertment head means I get to do it ALL THE TIME!

So... are you saying that the experience I had at Best Buy was not uncommon?

And what is CC?

Amazon is better with that
Usually $20.

I bought SOCOM 4 and Portal 2 for the PS3, I got $40 in credit which is more or less $10 away from a new game.

I have to agree with Walmart being much better. I went to Bestbuy a few times, I bought my Razer Lycosa there, as well as my Xbox 360 PC controller, and GTA IV. I asked a few clerks if they had any gaming mouses? Each of them brought me to, and showed me a bunch of laptop mouses and wireless $10 HP/Dell mouses. I also asked about USB drivers and they a few of them had no idea what I was talked about, 1 of them did bring me to flashdrives though.

ME: "Do you have Bad Company 3 for PC?"

Blue Shirt Kid at Best Buy: "Yes, but you should buy it for XBOX...consoles are better than PC's for gaming. We have a special right now...for $139 you can get this Monster USB cable for your mouse....it'll help increase your scores in Bad Company 3."

I made all that up...but all of you know that that is how it is going to go down.
