[CVG] Wii 2 is 'Project Café', says report - tech specs, controller details claimed - Page 5

Main thing sticking out at me is only 512MB of RAM. Come on! RAM size is probably the main console limitation in terms of actual game changing features currently. Always hearing about devs complaining they had to take out features or depth to the game because of RAM limitations.

It's so cheap at the moment, I'm sure they could stick 1GB in there for basically nothing...

Ok, lets assume they've been designing this for 2 years or so. That means they started around 2009. At which point the Ati 4800 series was not old.You cannot use cutting edge tech that costs like £150-£200 gpu alone in a console. You will get slaughtered.

Also: I had a 4870 until a few months ago (it went pop) and have a gts 250 atm. If this Gpu is around that sort of power, then it will be fine - I can still play current games at 1080p on mostly high settings, sometimes max on a quad core. Then consider how much more optimised console development is.

Also consider it says at least 512Mb of RAM. That means minimum 512mb - possibly more.

Then, consider that these are rumours. RUMOURS. Geez, people throwing in the towel already.

On the cost of the console, yes. The 360 did this. It had a r500 GPU with features of the unreleased r600.

MSFT took a huge hit on the sale of the console, and made up for it in game / accessory sales.

Nintendo doesn't like losing money on the console; they play differently.

Six inch touch screen on the controller? As if we didn't already get enough "accidents" with the Wii remotes.

It says the console will include a custom IBM PowerPC CPU with three cores, a GPU from the ATI R700 family with a shader unit at version 4.1, and at least 512Mb of RAM
So it's an xbox 360 w/ a gpu upgrade. Nice to see how far it'll be behind by the next console release.

Why must Nintendo always put such dated hardware in their consoles? On the plus side, it'll be DirectX 10.1 and OpenGL, meaning the PC community might see some interesting games, possibly.

if these specs holds some kind of truth to them, why in the heck would you be using old tech. by the time this gets released it will have 5+ year old components in it lol i specially like the heading "to be a bit more powerful than the 360" which in console years is about to be older than dirt if not already nintendo needs to step it up

Goodness you all. Do you want to afford this console? Or would you like to just pay $1000+ like you do on your PC? You cannot have latest and greatest tech or else we would never be able to afford the console. And developing takes time. Sure you can throw in the latest GPU on your PC, but come on, this is a console. It takes years to develop and the tech, while latest at time of development, will be dated by the time it is released. Deal with it. It will still be more powerful than our current consoles, and look how well they do graphically.

Just uh..gotta ask..

how does the CPU mean xbox 360 cpu type power.

Or are you suggesting that all triple-core's are the same?

In that case, could you not also suggest that Q6600 = i7 2600k?

Design cycles are longer than most people in this thread think. Consoles take years to design. Nintendo can't use an unfinished GPU in their plans.

Current AMD GPUs are still based off tweaked R600. It's nothing like R500 -> R600.

They could have, yeah, but if the GPU can't utilize it, then it'd be a waste of money.
It'd be like slapping 1GB on an 8400GS.
The form factor of a console is very small, so the GPU will most likely have to be cut down or downclocked.
