[CVG] Wii 2 is 'Project Café', says report - tech specs, controller details claimed - Page 6

All this talk of "why doesn't it have xyz better" can be summed up by Console =! PC. Simple way to put it is you sit 3 feet away from your monitor when you game on a PC vs ~15 feet away if you are playing on a console.

Yeah sure, nintendo could go beef up everything to current hardware, but the console price will be well pass that of the release PS3.

The Wii 2 or whatever you will call it will not use Dx10. First off DX is microsoft.... lol. Secondly there is no need for anything like Directx/open GL because their isn't varying hardware.

Honestly though. Nintendo should not be releasing an entire new console. They should just release a Wii HD with the upgraded internals and keep the same controllers. Adding all this stuff like the LCD on the controller to it will make it even tougher to develop for. Which will result in a lack of quality software.

512MB of RAM? LOL
At least have 2GB!

Hell, if it's from the R700 family then it COULD have a 4890!

Not bad.

Well, the 360 has 512MB or RAM and it does pretty well. Probably not good though to release 512MB for the future.

2GB is a bit much. I guess you don't understand consoles. :/

Aye, consoles dont need as high a spec as PC's - they're generally far better optimised. 1-1.5gb should be fine. I mean, killzone 3 looked pretty nice, and its working off xxxx hardware.

The X360 is finally outdated compared to today's tech.

But isn't that the point of having a console?

To get maximum lifespan?

So if they actually put decent hardware, then it can last them for years.

Heck, even the 360 has tessellation capabilities.

The Wii 2 doesnt need the latest and greatest hardware, the games are super optimized to use exactly whats available to it. it may be a ATI 48xx card but after all the vast optimizations, this thing could kill Crysis or metro 2033 easily.

lol.

I remember VERY old rumours of Nintendo going to use Fusion in their future console
when AMD announced the R&D in Fusion.

I could go on into optimization but it all basically reroutes to that.

The way Nintendo is going about this is both a blessing and a curse. They will make money on the console, unlike the PS3. However, they have to use last gen tech to accomplish that. Think about it. A GTX570 runs 300-350 alone. Whereas a 4870 is less than half that. Since they will buy them in bulk, you are looking at a $70 card, give or take a few bucks.

I just want the ability to play hard care games as well as casual games. Will see...
