I have the first version is the ASUS M4A89TD PRO/USB3 which has no USB 3. My 2 nephew and me are running on ASUS M4A89TD PRO and they oc great. One of my nephew is running a 965 C3 at 3.9ghz and I'm running a B55 X3 at 4.0ghz.

Wait lol, overclock your NB to 2400Mhz leaving the voltage on auto and lower your RAM timings. That will give you the best results
Then wait for BD and a BD ready mobo ^^

I've got them running at 1600, 8-8-8-24 with cpu-nb at 2600mhz @1.3v. Testing now will keep you updated.

CPU running hot is affecting the clocks (Phenom II can run lower volts when cooler - I proved this myself when I went from Xiggy DK to NH-D14 cooler. Temps dropped significantly and I was able to lower my 4Ghz voltage by 0.05V)
It is either (or both) a bad CPU cooler mounting (check the tightening) or the heat from the VRMs/MOSFETs is leaking to the CPU area
