It is even worse when you are the cashier and you find one. I had to deal with that at a climbing gym where I worked, a family tried to pay with a forged $20. Now I knew that this person wasn't a criminal, they were no forger, they just had the bad luck to have been passed off with a fake, and the worse luck that I had spotted it.

But I had to stand in front of them, fully sympathetic, and tell them that I could not give them the note back and I could not accept it (our bank sure as hell wouldn't). I felt like a complete monster as I tore it up in front of them (standard procedure, but both halves need to go to the bank after), I was so distracted that I forgot to charge them for their equipment hire, which cost $20...

So please tell me what's so wrong with Canada?
After having a Canadian friend, I can safely attest to this here.

I mean Toronto is like a slightly smaller NYC.

I'd settle for just banning the placement of dead guys (and people in general) on our money..

Would you rather have Lady Gaga and Justin Beiber?

I would go poor just to avoid using money if that was the case.

I'd rather have Kanye West and Taylor Swift.

Considering that the polymer money is manufactured in AU under very high security for the Countries that use it, there is no chance of getting "parts" in other Countries to build your own fabrication plant.

And even if you did manage to make a note physically similar out of similar polymer, it would be lacking the extra security features of the real notes and would be found to be fake after a quick check

These are also harder to forfeit.

You can hardly use $100 bills in a lot of places.

Hooray, I might actually be able to spend $100 bills again!, was able to for a short time after they remodelled the banknote last time until it was counterfeited, and now that time has come again.

and while other countries have had plastic money for a long time, we will have plastic money that is actually all the same size.

nothing was more irritating than having bills that wouldn't fit in my wallet in different countries, or ones that were so small I lost them easily. (5 euro i'm looking at you)
