[FS] Canada Prepares To Introduce Plastic Money. - Page 9

Same here in NZ. We've had plastic money for AGES!!
Far harder to counterfeit and more durable. It's a no brainer.
xd, you have no idea what you talknig about. They are far better 'build quality' than paper money. Not indestructible but you can't tear plastic money with your hands like with paper money.

Forgive me for not reading the whole thread.

I am assuming when people refer to paper money they are referring to US bills for example? Isn't US bills made with cotton? Forgive my incompetence...

US money is made of 25 percent linen and 75 percent cotton.

Cotton prices have almost doubled. It would actually be cheaper to use plastic instead of cotton.

Isn't Canadian money atm not a cotton blend like American money is? Either way the cotton paper that American money is made out of is produced in one place with proprietary security features blended in. PVC is in everything imaginable. Seems to me the only really security you could add would be in the inks used to dye the pvc a different color. Manipulating plastic is far easier than making cotton paper. You could melt down water pipe for a base then add in the ingredients press to thickness and done. ( I get it isn't that quite that easy) but the point is valid. There is no where to get already made bill paper. Plenty of places to pick up pvc. All you really need to mimic is the feel as that is the number one security feature that average people look for. (at least of American bills) The feel of the money. Smooth plastic is easy to mimic.
