I've wanted this mouse for absoloutey ages, but due to actual hardware upgrades i'm poor. I hope i don't hate it when i get it, will be a big let down.

count me in on the dislike club. I've had the Rat9 for a week and returned it for a refund.
It sure felt sturdy and looked totally futuristic and whatnot but in the end I couldn't really get used to it. The whole metal frame makes it ridiculously heavy at roughly 170g. It was way too wide for my hands which were used to the standard MX518 mold. The thumb buttons were kind of okay, although the buttons had to be moved pretty much to the front which made the mouse even wider.
It had some tracking issues that were also present in the Mamba I've had before so returning it was pretty much of a no-brainer.

Afterwards I went notebook mouse and bought a Roccat Pyra wireless. Sure the build quality is not up to par with the Rat or Mamba mice, it has fewer buttons, side buttons could be placed more ergonomically and it lacks a battery gauge. Putting that aside the size and the weight (or rather lack of it) just makes it pretty much perfect for me so I'm loving it despite all the other drawbacks.

In hindsight I'm glad I've tried the Rat series. Now I know what I need from a mouse and what features are rather optional.

Awesome mouse. Got it adjusted perfect for my smaller hand. Couldn't be happier. It also has the best wireless performance out of all the expensive wireless gaming mice. Easy to swap battery and no requirement for a cord to recharge it. (corded charging is stupid. I paid for a wireless mouse, I want to use it wireless ALL THE TIME). There are a few other features I could mention.

I have to ask, why make an entire thread out of your hatred of something? If you don't like it, that means you have to make a whole thread about it? I could make negative threads about the Mamba or the newer Logitech cordless mice but I don't.

The only good mouse I've found with as good wireless performance and better battery performance is the MX Revolution. It was fantastic until I started wearing out the buttons. I just repaired it and took it to work. Awesome mouse (both of them).

R.A.T. 9 and most other laser mouse are fine for normal and even casual gaming use. It's only when it comes down to the nitty gritty such as acceleration, tracking, and comfort that these mice seem bad. Honestly most people would be fine using Mamba, RAT9, or G9x (they don't have a large following and good reviews for nothing), but for hardcore FPS they just don't cut it. Thats why I only use optical.

My last three mice have all been laser mice, and I may not get paid to play games, but due to how much time I use to play them I would have to be considered a "hard core" gamer.

I play lots of FPS games and my laser mice have always done just fine. Personally, I think some people just can't get used to them and have to blame it on the mice.

On an off note, I was having some tracking problems with my RAT9. I switched to a cheap black cloth pad and it's been working perfectly. I've been playing a lot of BF3 over the last week or so, not a single problem.

I think this is probably a fine example of ignorance is bliss. The sensor in the RAT mice (PTE) have z-axis tracking issues, jitter issues, and you don't want a subwoofer near them because that can screw up their tracking also. All in all it's a crap sensor.

Doing just fine isnt "hardcore", but when you are playing BF3 you can prove that it works well with your Stats. wink.gif

I guess its okay if you are still around that age tho.

I thought the mouse was awesome and almost bought it.

The horrible reviews and issues turned me away.
