. There's also a and a , but they cost slightly more, at least according to Amazon prices. There are a bunch of professional first-person shooter players who use this headset and the original Siberia V1 headset has been around for more than 7 years, so it's a tried and true design.

I know what people generally think of Razer but I have been using the Carcharias headset for about 8 months now and I have had no problems with it whatsoever.

Sound quality is really solid with decent bass. Music wise, it does well with midrange vocals but cant produce high range notes that well. I usually use Skype when gaming and my friends have commented on the clarity of my voice.

Pretty decent deal for $65 IMO.

Does the AD700 have any noise canceling?
The 350 had some excellent reviews about its mic/speaker noise canceling. The 360 is too open for noisy environments.
That Zalman mic doesn't have noise canceling does it? I bet it picks up the sound of your computer fans or tv in the background; just like the crappy Logitech desk mics.

The Razer Carcharias are just modified HD555s that sound slightly worse. You should be able to mod them to 595s.
The PC 350 is a modified HD 595. You can mod them as well to improve the sound.

What else is a good LAN gaming headset that blocks out other people and noises around you under $200?

I just recently switched to some 595s with mic and they absolutely destroy the Razers, as will most headphones. However, if you are dead set on a headset; I would recommend the Carcharias from personal experience, also the G35 from what I've heard from others.
The Carharias are just modified 555s. You can mod 555s to 595s so shouldn't you be able to make the Carcharias sound the same?

2) are you willing to pay more money to get poorer quality speakers and mic and and uncomfortable headset in order to get said pre-attached boom mic? - No, what do you consider good for under $200?
3) did you really buy a fancy soundcard to bypass it entirely and use usb crap? - No, cable ties for separate phone/mic cables will do just fine.

For gaming. I use PLANTRONICS GameCom 377. I have used better for music (these have a lack up thump for music). But the mic is very clear according to buddies on Vent and TeamSpeak. I find the sound to be great for gaming! In BBC2 I like being able to hear footsteps, and shoot people though the floor/door's/walls/ect for the price you cant go wrong!

As for the few poor review's, I have nothing bad tosay about this headset for gaming. works perfect for a low end set.

My girlfriend uses these and she seems to like them. Mic quality is really good, I never have problems hearing her and the bass seems to be pretty deep for cheap headphones.

She complains about the tightness on the headset but supposedly it wears a bit with use and gets better.

You should be able to find sennheiser pc350 or pc360 headsets for around $200. I wouldn't go with anything else if that is your budget. Just decide whether you want open or closed cans

I own the razer carcharias as well, but I don't recommend them. Sennheiser headsets are good .

I use and recommend the Astro A40 Audio System. Take a look at it if it's within your budget constraints. The build quality is really top-notch. The boom mic is actually detachable if you ever want to go without it, and it's not a flimsy connection either. There are customizable ear tags (you'll see what i mean when you give the website a look) so there is certainly a fashion element to the set.

You can buy the headset by itself, or you can buy it with the mixamp which gives you the option to forgo USB audio and use toslink or analog if you please.

I'm very happy with the quality of sound. I'm not an audiophile, but I have used them to listen to music as well and have been very happy with them in that aspect. I really think they are a great all-arounder.
