Motherboard, cpu and ram suggestions kindly accepted

Thread Starter
Hey guys. I've been out of the loop for quite a bit, see my sig rig, but consider finally upgrading my mobo, cpu and ram (anything I forgot?) to match the gtx580. I seem to be getting bottlenecked in some games that are very dear to me these days. Please help me make it simpler guys, as I find it hard to orient myself to all the new stuff.

First of all I'm out to get Sandybridged. I have a medium sized budget, but want to prioritize mobo before anything. Here are my questions:

1) Mobo: I want an Asus mobo, pretty easy to overclock with misc. monitoring options and as little as possible vdroop (important). I also need one (preferably ONLY one) pci slot. Otherwise it would be neat to have good pre-mounted NB cooling. Which one should I go for?

2) Cpu: Sandybridge obviously. Is i7 Quad Processor i7-2600K a good choice here? Obviously a hexacore would be cool, but seeing that it is double the price I think I'll manage with four in the meantime. Any other tips?

3) Ram: Ohhh, the ever slippery ram which I never fully comprehend. Higher bandwidth but higher latencies and stuff. Bah, it was easier before . Anyhow, some suggestions to what type of ram I "need", and what brands are good these days?

4) I can keep my Antec1200 cabinet with these upgrades, right?

5) Can I keep my 750W psu with this new setup, at least until I decide to upgrade for futureproofing?

Sorry for appearing lazy guys. Its just that I started browsing around and was overwhelmed by all the options, and I've been through these type of processes at least 10 times before.

Any helps and tips are very welcome.

Regards,

Chris

The 2500k is more than good enough for the typical enthusiast. As far as RAM goes, either 1333 or 1600 is fine, but you'll want to look at the timings and voltage - the lower, the better, for the most part. And remember to buy in pairs since the 2500/2600k are dual-channel.

And like TwoCables said, the TX750 is plenty. There's no reason you can't use your 1200 either.

ive been looking around at intel lately and the Sabertooth looks really nice. I dont think youll find very many moBos with only 1 PCIe slot so I guess the P8P67 Pro would be one lower than the sabertooth. As for CPU's, the 2500k is the best bet. I dont know what youll be doing with your comp but for playing games and allowing vid cards to unleash true potential, that cpu is more than enough. Plus it overclocks like a champ

I must say I like the look of that Sabretooth... :O

Edit: Buuut, I'm going to go for the Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD5, simply because it seems to be more fitting for me as an audio hobbyist (less dpc latency problems reported).
