That XFX they're using is identical to the Corsair TX650V2, internally

A higher system has a power consumption at the wall max of 530 watt!
Calculating the efficiency of the PSU (90 %), the real consumption is around 460-480 watt....

I get what you're saying, but really the amount of resistance added by the modularity is tiny, and with all the awesome modular units available with extremely low ripple, I think that's also a non-issue
TX650V2 is Seasonic based, whereas the HX650 is CWT based if I remember. Both are quite good.

I ran into issues with modular plugs before, when using a power supply in a different setting. The connections simply weren't able to supply enough power. Hard-wiring solved the issue. Granted, this wasn't computers, but it still counts to a degree, especially when more power is pushed in modern computers.

Ripple stems from converting AC to DC. Modular plugs won't effect it. What it will effect is load voltage, sag, and possibly efficiency if resistance is encountered at the connector. Granted, I do run an HX in my sig rig, but really love that it has the ATX, EPS, and 2xPCI-E hard-wired. It is precisely how I would design things...everything else can go modular if the main stuff is taken care of (yes, I know...not accounting for multiple video cards).

The HX650 is made by SeaSonic, but on the older S12E platform. S12E is basically just a tweaked S12 platform, and S12 came out in 2005.
