Minecraft Server Issue

Thread Starter
Having an issue with Minecraft, not sure if anyone else has run into this.

OS is Ubuntu 10.10 x64

From a minimal image I have installed sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin screen and ia32-libs. I made a minecraft user and gave them ownership of the directory and files within.

The server boots up both from straight command line as well as screen, however within about a minute of either solution the server pretty much halts. You can be still in game but none of your requests will function (flipping switch, etc). This happens with any memory allocation as well, from 512m to 2048m.

Server is on an OpenVZ VPS with 2x Xeon cores and 4 GB of dedicated memory.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Not sure why getting those messages, nothing running on the box other than ventrilo. There are 2x Xeon E5620 cores allocated, I'd imagine that is enough power..

After that it just times out. When you try to reconnect it sits at 'Logging in' so apparently the port is open but it doesn't do anything but sit there and time out some more. There are no log updates after this in the console even after trying to connect to it or leaving it open for a while. Also, I cannot input commands in the console after it lags out..

Edit:
Tried again on other OS implementation, only this time receiving:

Would this be an issue with inter-processor timing? Is there any way to force minecraft to only use one core?

I'd try a fresh install of java and the minecraft client, sounds like one of them is crashing out.

The "[WARNING] Can't keep up! Did the system time change, or is the server overloaded?" is very common and you will see it a lot, makes no diffrence.

I tried a couple different OS (fresh installs), new acquisition of java and fresh minecraft launch each time to no avail. I downloaded the Bukkit version and it works fine without crashing, whereas vanilla wouldn't last but a minute or two.

Thanks for your advice.
