I can't really say with utmost certainty, it's almost always plugged in. The longest I've had it unplugged while using it (for web browsing/Steam chat) was about an hour and a half with no power tweaks done. I can't recall how much battery life I had afterward, but a good majority of it was depleted.

In terms of the gaming aspect, I am looking into dual boot, since I doubt SC will run on OS X (honestly haven't done any research on gaming on Macs). I am not looking for a powerhouse by any means. I was leaning more towards the Macbook Pro, but I will weigh the ASUS options a little more now. I've been looking, but can't find anything, do the ASUS ROG laptops had 2 hdd bays? I wouldn't mind slapping in a SSD for boot/games.
Actually the starcraft 2 disc contains both mac and pc files.

I would recommend the Asus. Macbook Pro's are not free of problems, in fact they fail just as much as other manufacturer's PCs.

If you plan on taking it to class very often get the macbook. It will be significantly lighter to carry around and on top of that it will get much battery life. Lugging a big power hungry laptop around to classes is the worst, I know from experience :/...

edit: Also the trackpads on Macbooks are great.

Why stop at Mac? For the same price, you could have something awesome that isnt covered in aluminium, burns to the touch, and is 70% battery and 30% fail.

I had a MacBook (Mid-2010, w/ 4g ram), SC, WoW, and TF2 worked fine on that. I also had Windows XP on it playing APB, Crysis Warhead, RIFT and good ol' BF2.
In fact i'm getting the new Pro at the end of next month (When the student discount stuff is open) since my MacBook was just stolen out of my home
I know Mac stuff is overpriced, but it was my Graduation present so I didn't pay...
Hope that helps!

the mbp was actually made by asus for a while...I don't know if they still are or not, but it's amazing to see the people who don't understand that Apple usually does very little besides software and marketing.Yes they come up with the designs as well but lets face it those are often based on form/aesthetics rather then function.

even if you don't care about maxing, the asus is still a much better laptop if you are going to used it for gaming on any consistent basis. As for battery life however...not good. I had a g73 and you can coax maybe 2 hours out of it for just light activities.

Really any "gaming" laptop is going to be rather short on battery life.

It's not covered in aluminum, its actually made out of aluminum.
Mine has never gotten hot let alone even warm.
And your last point doesn't even make sense.

IHMO, OSX is pretty awesome, it comes with a lot more than Stock windows.

also, one of the things that kept me from buying a map was that it didn't have Aero snap, but you can download a third party one for mac :]

Also... the battery life on mac's is ridiculously good, I mean CRAZY good compared to any similar windows machine.
