Nope. I've been told you only need to do a fresh install if you replace the motherboard. Will your motherboard accept the new CPU? If not, you may have to update the Bios first.

No but it's recommended to reinstall when you get a new motherboard

I use the LGA 775 socket, so i was just going to upgrade my Celeron e3300 to a quad core. I was going to get a i5 quad core i2400 cpu and a new mb and some ddr3 memory, but i don't feel like re-installing the OS haha. It only takes a few mins, but i really hate it. frown.gif

Funny thing is, i plan to order everything next tuesday , and i wont get it until about 2 weeks from now, because i use money orders. or a week and few days. So i just finish a fresh install right now and plan to put everything back by tomorrow night.

See what i am saying, so in about what 10 + days, i will have to install everything all over again lol
I know it will be worth it , but i guess i can just settle with a simple quad core form the old socket.
