6850 vs 6870 for editing/light gaming

Thread Starter
They seem pretty close in price point and gaming bench marks as a single card. I haven't found any info as far as video/photo editing and encoding and am wondering what the better route would be?

I wouldn't be running crossfire, no need for what I am doing. This will be going in an Asus P67 Pro/2600k setup just to give you an idea. If there is any other info you would like to know just ask

You're always there to help me it seems

I feel like the 6850 will be the better buy, but does anybody else have any thoughts?

I have the 6870 and I love this card. It really is an amazing single gpu card. I would get the 6870 and OC it. These cards are very nice for OC'ing. But since you are doing light gaming and editing, I probably would go with the 6850 to save a little money since you are not going to be gaming a lot.

Um since when are the nice for OC'ing? I had 2 and they dont overclock very well at all. Nothing like the 5XXX series did.

OP for light gaming go with the 6850 it can handle its own pretty well. As long as your not trying to play crysis and metro maxed out just about everything else will play just fine.

Yeah, I'm all about video editing. But the more time I spend on these forums, the more I'm starting to look into light gaming. So the 6850 it is?

Brands don't matter, they're all the same card right?

If I was going to get a 6850 today I would pick between these ones.

Or the Sappire Toxic model if you can find it somewhere on sale.
Also if you order from Newegg tonight before midnight and make a new account you can use the promo code NEWTAX25 for $25 off your order.

^Second to that, an oc of 11%/14% is nowhere as impressive as most 6850s overclock: 20%/20%.

I don't see a reason for me to OC it, but thanks guys How would an HD 5870 compare to either for my purposes, since there has been a price drop and all.
