Processes being caught in "suspend" on launch. solved

Ok so here is my current situation:

Windows 7 Professional (c) 2009

Hardware is AMD x6 1055t, etc. refer to CPU-z

background (rambly shmambly)
This has already led me to a reformat, because I think it is causing system processes to hang in log off / shut down procedure. Before, my log off was taking an ungodly long time and not doing anything at all w/ the system, so I hard reset. It worked for awhile, but my apps were still hanging, so I tried disabling some new or unnecessary Startup Items (from system config) that I installed (ps3 controller driver, camera driver, printer / audio drivers). After changing the settings in system config - I attempted to restart only for it to get stuck on log off indefinitely. Hard reboot later, windows management files are missing, no drivers will load, and I had to reboot.

This install I decided to look more closely at what is going on when the same obnoxious symptom appeared.
205813d1302923744-processes-being-caught-suspend-launch-w-resourcemon.png
As you can see in the first picture, the applications I attempted to open (via the start menu) have opened in my processes tab with a light blue color and a suspended status.
If I then right click the light blue item, and click "resume process" it opens as intended when I went into the start menu.
If I don't it just sits there in the task manager as a process using 100-108k memory.
I was OK reformatting, because I thought this was some kinda bug or something and reformatting would fix it, but apparently its something in windows?
My system has been stable for 6 months, this started happening within the last 2 weeks.

could having timings that were off or having installed windows with an overclock be what caused this in the first place? (its working fine now, after a reboot. not happening anymore. this time I installed windows with default clock speeds.)

I'm not really sure. What would that have to do with it? My windows is 64 bit... and the applications are whatever they are programmed in. I don't see how being a 32bit application would cause this in any way, since I've been on 64 bit os for, oh, 5 years now and never had this happen before.

AFAIK its anything that wasn't installed with windows. IE 32-bit and IE 64-bit both open just fine. But firefox, any game, application, or anything else (besides start up stuff) is doing this. It is coming and going at this point... last night it wasn't happening, tonight its happening again. still not really sure whats up.

well you've been running your computer for 6 months and only have had this problem in the last 2 weeks, i was seeing if there was a link to 32 bit and 64 bit programs, as i've honestly never seen or heard anything like this without the assistance of a third party program in windows.

if this was linux that was doing it, i would say check your keyboard, ctrl+z will "suspend" a program like this, but in windows, there is no shortcut that i could find that would do this. every way i searched for on google, would lead me to various third-party programs.

honestly the only other thing i can think of, is this is not a legit version of windows, cause this sounds similar to other cases i've heard about MS "kill" procedures to render the OS inoperable or intolerable to use.

so i guess you can either humour me and see if there is a link between opening 3rd party 32 bit application and 64 bit applications, or i can walk away now thinking this is just another case of "piracy" gone wrong.

A) You're infected - run the usual gamut of cleaning dispensaries.
B) A rogue program/app/file has taken control of the kernel (possible, unlikely).
C) When you reformatted you didn't properly wipe your drives causing the installation over your old install to have this kind of effect. (I have had similar issues to this).

I only reformatted my OS drive, also I have been using AVIRA antivirus, should I try a different one?

Only thing I run off of my storage drive is games located in my steam folder, I reinstall steam in the same folder on my storage drive.

Everything runs just fine, I just have right click the process in resource monitor to get it going at first...

I may have originally soudned like I reformatted a while ago. Well I reformatted on Friday at 4pm PST and it was doing this shortly after.

My sig rig info got messed up I'll fix that up now

The windows version is legit, I got it through my Univeristy from comp sci department and downloaded it directly from MSDN, burnt it to a DVD.

any new hardware added lately? (like usb pen drives, ipod/iphone/*droid phone, webcam, printer, etc...doesn't have to be usb, basically anything in the last month i'd say.)

have you ran a file integrity check?

open a command prompt with admin privileges and enter in:

SFC /SCANNOW

will check for possible OS corruption (could happen due to bad OC, or bad sectors on HDD.) it will take awhile, so set back and open a cold one smile.gif

I am having this exact same issue sadly. I'm running 64bit win 7. It suspends almost all programs...

myspecs.JPG
I have tested both 64 bit/32bit programs with all same result, suspends. It didn't do this when I had fresh install, really only last week or so. Weirdly ccleaner doesn't suspend or ie.

Updating SP1 seemed to fix this, for now at least...

Hmmm, I don't think any new hardware... I did get a trick mouse from someone on this forum, it would just keep tossing out letters + numbers + loooots of spaces + mouse commands. unusable mouse.

Its a fresh reformat on a stock clock, and nothing has been hooked up to it that is out of the ordinary, besides maybe my android. But thats an android. I have a printer, a usb hub, keyboard, mouse, headphones, and android hooked up to it.

Its still doing it, but it doesn't seem to always do it. First cold start of the day, it seems to do it. after it warms up and I reset it the problem may go away.

I updated to SP1 and the other 75-90 windows updates or whatnot and they didn't seem to do a damned thing for me. I might try updating my bios since I have the newest ROM but I doubt that would make a difference.

I tried to open the cmd with admin privs but explorer just locked up when I right clicked an element in the start menu.
