[SOLVED] Case Flow air direction advice please.

Thread Starter
Hi overclockers,

Well I am starting my new build and well I need a little help with the case airflow directions.

I figure the front is intake to col of the rad and then one top 120 intake to cool off what seems to be the vrm or power phase and the north bridge. I say top intake because the air would really hit the neatsinks.

then 120mm exhaust fan and the psu would also vent out the rear.

refer to the kindergarten sketch LOL.

Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811112300

W/C gear will be Heatkiller v3.0 1366 and heatkiller and a 5x80 fot the 5870 eyefinity 6.

As OC goes I curently have it at 3.2GHz on air but would like it to be 3.5GHz on water.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

In your pic, the top one that is intake should be exhaust.

Looks fine to me for airflow. And you can easily get that 950 up to 4.0 and 4.2 without any issue. If you are really concerned about pulling the hot air out of your case just grab a high cfm fan for the rear no need to change your fan configs. Good luck with your build.

yeah thats why I was asking though if you look at the M?B i have it has pasive heatsinks and well if I use an intake fan there it would be perfect, but again I wanted to ask just to be sure and safe.

So far have 1 for ok and one for not Ok so will see how many more post I will get and see what i will do.

As far as getting my cpu to 4.2GHz that would be nice but where would I really use those fast clocks? on benches? not into to much, in games well which ones I hears t gpu and a decent cpu.

Then again having a fast cpu is aways fun he he, where would i really see the benefits of oc? the biggest improvement was an ssd and data ssd in raid 0.

You can always try it as intake, and if you're happy with the temps then leave it. The only reason I suggest having it as exhaust is due to the fact that you will only have one fan (rear) on exhaust, and with the hot air that will be in your case from your rad, you will probably want to exhaust that air out as fast as possible.

You could start folding with those extra GHz nothing like trying to help cure things like cancer and other biological diseases. Even if you don't want to run 24/7 you can always fold while doing other pc activities.

+ 1 very true but at the same time see my light bill go through the roof LOL ha ha.

Yeah I had my server doing some folding but it made streaming videos to 3 computers difficult, now that i dont use it to fold i can stream 4 hd videos at the same time with no lag and junk.

Ok but back to the point.

Well wouldn't the psu count as an exhaust as well? It sucks from inside the case and spits out from the rear?

Granted the air that the psu will pulled will be warm but my point stand that it will still exhaust no?

Exhaust through the top, like a chimney.

The way the air flows through the case is illustrated here:

http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/product...s_index=63&g=f

Looking at how the PSU mounts, it looks like the intake is against the door, which won't do much for the airflow.
