Netbook.

Thread Starter
Okay, I'm looking for a netbook that is around $400 or less. Preferably $300. I'm in Australia. Most likely a 10.1 inch, defiantly smaller then 14 inch. I don't mind if its used or new, but prefer new.

This will be a general uni netbook, will NOT be using it for gaming. I do some coding in c++ and HTML etc. as well as word processing etc. I will try running Ubuntu 10.10 for the first time, but if i don't like it, will just switch to Win7. I would prefer 801.11n wireless, but not that important. Would like the Battery life to be alright, as its for uni, but its not that important.

I have been looking at the HP Mini 5102 and a few gateway net books. But with the 5102, i am worried that the Atom 450 wont be enough power. I also like EEEpcs so they're a option.

Any help would be greatly appreciated Hope i gave enough info Thanks.

My asus eee is ok. Would probably buy again, considering it was 200. I have seen them on craigslist for as low as 130, but I dunno about Australian prices.

Anyone got anymore suggestions, anyone had experiences with the 5102, or even the Atom N450 in general. Want to buy a netbook in the next week or so. Thanks.

If ultraportability and battery life are your main concerns and your computing needs modest (as they seem from your initial post) the N450 gets the job done. It's reasonably speedy in win7 with all the fluff disabled. Just make sure you get a 6 cell battery model so you get those 4 hour + run times.

I'm quite satisfied with my HP mini 210 and I'm sure you will be as well with a comparable model sporting the N450 as long as you don't ask it to perform a task it's ill suited for (HD playback, video encoding, cpu intensive stuff in general).

Get and ASUS Eee PC Series Netbook.

I have a ASUS Eee PC 900, and it's still running now, already dropped it multiple times, been in a bag while on, noticed it was on when i felt the bag getting warm..`

ASUS EEE is a great option. I owned one for about 6 months before selling it last week. The screen was too small to code IMO and it was too slow for my liking. If all you want is to surf the web and take notes, then an Atom N450 would be perfect and cheap. I see them go for about $200 now. If you want a little bit more power, you can go for the AMD C-50.

This one has a C-50 in it, and comes out to less than $400. It also has a higher resolution to fit more stuff on the screen, but it's a 10" screen.

This one has a N450 in it and its only $260! However, for $40 more, you can get the N550 which is dual core and much faster than the N450.

N550 for $300
