Anyone own OCZ 1250W ZX series PSU?

I just got one and started sleeving my cables. when you take apart the original cable sleeving there is a little blue and gray battery looking type thing. i was unaware of that originally and pulled it off by accident. anyone know what that does or if the psu will run without it?the battery looking thing is on the side that goes into the video card and there is also one on the side that goes into the mobo. the psu side of the cable does not have any of the battery type things.

thanks.

I don't have that PSU but I believe those are capacitors designed to help with ripple and glitches/sudden loads. It shouldn't matter much if you cut it off, the PSU will still function.

I have the ZX1000w, yes those are caps. It was a true pita to sleeve the 24-pin, not only due to the caps but the wires cris-crossed each other.

Anyways, I would add the type of cap back on or see if you can rma. this really was the least appealing thing about these psu. btw, the 850w also has them I believe.

Those are capacitors and they keep the ripple down.
See http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php...tory3&reid=177 about their importance. I know the Antec TPQ-1200 has nothing in common with the OCZ ZX 1250W, but the concept is the same.

that pretty much undid the warranty on it. and it wont be much of a problem as i dont plan to run more than 2 cards anyways so i still have enough pci-e cables left over. i guess ill just sleeve some extensions for it instead. anyone know where i can get some good pcie 8 pin extensions?

Sometimes manufacturers will throw those on the modular cable boards as a last ditch effort because they realized the ripple is too high with the regular design.

Sometimes they just put them on there because there's physically no space anywhere else.

Sometimes it's due to the particular design.
