Crit my build please ($1500ish)

Thread Starter
Case: Coolermaster HAF X ($189.99)
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-H67A-UD3H-B3 ($144.99)
CPU: i7-2600k ($309.99)
GPU: Sapphire HD 6870 ($229.99)
RAM: Corsair XMS3 4GB DDR3 x2 ($49.99 x2)
PSU: Corsair CX600 ($69.99)
CPU cooler: Zalman Cooler ($79.99)
Primary Drive: OCZ Vertex 2 60gb SSD x2 ($114.99 x2)
Storage Drive: WD 1TB SATA3 III w/ 64mb cache x2 ($79.99 x2)

I'm a complete noob here... I haven't built a system in 2 years now and I was all about AMD.
The price is all in CAD.
Also, I was wondering if I should just downgrade to i5 instead...
The pc is going to be used mainly as gaming/media centre with lots of files to transfer here and there (I work with lots of photos for my job), which is basically why I chose to do raid drives for both primary and storage.

Get rid of the HAF-X Don't get me wrong it's great, but i'd go with the 932 or something to save money

Don't go with a H67 motherboard, go with the P67 boards

Go with the Antec truepower new 750 or the TX650 V2

Don't go with an i7 unless you're running multithreaded applications or folding, which you're not, go with the i5 2500k

The samsung F3 1tb is faster than the blacks.

With the money you will save you can go with either the 6950 or the GTX 570. Benchmarks are here and both are epic.

Also, don't RAID0 your storage drives, it increases failure rates and you could loose all your work. Recovering from a RAID0 array is inheriently difficult.

I would go with a GTX 460 tbh, not that I'm a fan boy of either...but it's a lot cheaper and keeps up with the 6870 on most benchmarks.
It's also a little smaller and gets better temps and power consumption from what I have seen.

Or for $20-40 more then the 6870 you can get a 560 TI and that thing beasts it over the 6870.

swap zalman CPU cooler for hyper 212. About as effective but much cheaper.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-065-_-Product

Id never spend anywhere close to that amount on a case.

Pretty much. I would get the Biostar TP67XE, it's an amazing board especially considering the price. I would also avoid the Zalman cooler and get something else.

I also do a LOT of photoshop illustrations as I am studying to become a concept artist. I have some pieces that have around 20000 pixels wide and I think I might need i7 for it. Thoughts?

There's a 5870 there that's cheaper than the 6870. Slightly more powerful, unless you want that extra tessellation. edited for Canadian price... even cheaper.

Where are you buying from OP? I recommend using pricebat.ca and price match everything you can on NCIX. Not sure what your budget is but I'd make more room for a beefier video card since this is mainly for gaming right?

edit: http://ncix.com/products/index.php?s...s&promoid=1317

Hyperthreading isn't useful really for your needs, I say grab this bundle and use the extra $100 for a 6950
